Just a little update.
The brass ends on the handguard were brightly polished when I bought the rifle and after the restoration the bright brass really looked out of place.
I tried a few things, with no luck, to get them tarnished.

1st it looks very very nice, per the tarnishing the brass, thanks for sharing this, I have never heard of this before.. Let me ask, if you had left the part in exposed to the fumes longer, say overnight would the tarnish have been darker??? Or is this as good as it gets???

It can take from 1 to 2 hours. If I had a larger container I could have used more vinegar and got more fumes.
