check http://www.firearmslawcenter.org/

There is no minimum age to possess firearms under Texas law, although federal law generally prohibits the possession of a handgun or handgun ammunition by anyone under the age of 18.

...

Federal law provides less stringent age restrictions with respect to sales by unlicensed persons. Unlicensed persons generally may not sell, deliver or otherwise transfer a handgun or handgun ammunition to any person the transferor knows or has reasonable cause to believe is under the age of 18. 18 U.S.C. § 922(x)(1), (3) and (5). Federal law provides no age limitations with respect to the sale of a long gun by an unlicensed person.

I got my first rifle at the age of 11. Unless there is some provision of state law prohibiting it, it's really up to your parents as to the minimum age.

I read in another post that a minor ( less than 18 yrs old ) could legally shoot a longarm, unsupervised while target practicing or farm/ranch use. Any truth to this???

Depends where the minor lives. May be requried to have hunting premit and/or be on parent's property.

I'm talking about NORTH CAROLINA. Look at my location. Not Michigan or Texas.

Is a 13-17 yr old under the age of 12? Ask your parents, no one here is going to give you permission to shoot on your parent's property.
