Firearm restrictions, and reprocussions.

I'm just wondering, how far would you let the government (state or federal) go in taking away your rights to own a firearm, before you would act. Any action. Violence, politics, etc. I'm basically wondering what some people would do? My grandfather says, the day "they" come to take his guns away, he won't be going down without a fight. Would you fight? How would you? Etc...

I'm going to have to go with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on this one:

As for action, my first would be political/legal by fighting back at the voting booth & in the courts. If I didn't like the way things turned out, I'd leave. If it came down to where the only alternatives were to give up my guns or die, I'd give them up. That would leave me alive to get more.

* I think they've gone too far already. The worst part is, I've let them. So I am writing regularly to a missouri senator whenever I see some debate coming up on Missouri law. I vote as my conscience dictates & I now read the issues throughly before voting. I talk to the candidates and let them know my stance; if they disagree or hedge, I take away my vote.

* Hmmm. That is easy to read but hard to do. I see many people 'talking loud & walking proud', but when it comes down to action, it seems most crumble. (Ms. Ladysmith, no criticism of your post there - I am in accord with you.)

Yes, I most likely will lie about ownership, hide them or destroy them myself before confiscation. I have been civilly disobedient and will quietly continue to do so. Read on how socialism is formed in a society, and maybe you'll have a change in your thoughts as well. It was frightening, and I hope I never see it in my home.

Anyway … most draw the line at mass confiscation, which will never happen if the prohibitionists are smart. Without mass confiscation, gun owners will eventually surrender everything but their small-bore target rifles and fowling pieces.

Wow. After reading through everyones replies I can't help but think this situation seems similar to that of feudal Japan. Only Samurai were allowed to own or carry swords, and most people lied and hid what they were doing. I don't know what I'd do. I love myself enough to not let anyone else tell me what to do. I respect and obey most of the laws of this country, because they allow me the oppertunity to prosper. On the ladder end, it also allows you to screw up.

Do I know if I'd "revolt" so to speak? Yes. Do I know how far I'd have the constitution to take it? No. Lets just hope it doesn't come to that. I'd hate to have to take someones life. I love cops. I've been around cops and their families. These are the people you'll end up killing because they're the ones that respond to these situations. You'd be killing good men and women.

I mean, I've been studying martial arts for a while and I walk down the street thinking man...I hope Id never have to use this stuff. I'm not trained to just punch someone when I get in a fight now... My brain can't think that way. I'm trained to eliminate any threat. Its a harsh decision to make. If someone were to make that decision, what I HATE most is the media would label them terrorist. No question in my mind. Then think about how opposed the public would be. Think about how our gov't doesn't negociate with terrorist.

Now, I'm not saying killing is the only way. But if political means don't work, what else is left?

Problem is, the politicians make no distinction between legal and illegal gun owners, the same as they make no disctionction between legal and illegal immigrants.

It's bad here. Very bad.

I'll just continue doing what I have done my whole life: Whatever I please. So far so good. And if it bites me in the ass someday we'll find out then "what I'd do". I'll admit that in all honesty I long since stopped trying to plan scenerios. I just hope I never have to deal with it and if I do that it'll be after the kids are grown.

The laws in CA were horrible before I turned 18. My rights had been voted away by others before I had the chance to defend them, or the knowledge. This, among other reasons, caused me to seek greener pastures.
I left CA and moved to Oregon, where I can own standard mags, and class 3 weapons if I choose. With a CHL, I can carry concealed or open, anywhere in the state. These are the limits I accept for now, and I am working to make Oregon even more free. There are no restrictions here about carry in schools, restaurants, churches, etc.
What gun control will I accept?
I accept what we have now. I don't like it, but I accept it, until it can be repealed.
That's all. No more, ever. I will live my life as I choose. I have drawn my line in the sand.
