I've looked at a couple of older threads here (2000-2003) about the Firearms Academy of Seattle.

I've recently decided on upping my skill level by taking a few classes....anyone have RECENT experience with FAS (last couple of years)?

I'm thinking specifically about their weeklong handgun course or possibly the LFI series if I can afford it!

Funny you mention it, I was thinking about taking their defensive handgun 2-day sometime early this summer.

I would also like to hear any recent reviews.

I've taken their 2 day defensive pistol and 1 day defensive shotgun both in the last year. My experience was pretty good. They have 2 instructors run a class of 12-14 students, which seemed about right. In the Defensive Pistol we covered reloads, low light, drawing from concealment, shooting on the move, shooting moving targets, legal aspects (classroom lecture) and lots more. Naturally they're also extremely safety conscious, taking everybody through safety videos in the beginning, covering rules and watching closely during live fire.

I've taken classes elsewhere as well, and my personal opinion is that in contrast FAS has a little bit of that "tough love" feeling to their classes. The instructors are there to teach you, point out everything wrong you're doing, and make very sure everybody is safe. This is a good thing though, and you'll learn a lot.

It might be worth mentioning that I am signed up for their Tactical Pistol course coming up this year. I expect it will be a bunch of fun.

Thanks brandnew, that's exactly the type of comment I was looking for.

Give us an update if you eventually take the Tactical Pistol course, I would love to hear about it.
