Firearms For Females Course

Earlier this week I conducted three days of Judgmental Shooting Training at James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville, NC. While there, I learned of an excellent free course they provide to their supported communities on occasion. It is called Firearms For Females, and covers care and use of shotguns, rifles, and handguns, with special emphasis on loading, unloading, and safe handling. I didn't have time to find out much about it, but from what I read, it's oriented towards women who have no knowledge of firearms. It's goal is to teach them to safely handle and shoot common hunting and defensive firearms.

Yes, shoot! Every participant shoots a variety of rifles, shotguns, autoloading pistols and revolvers. The course isn't, strictly speaking, a defensive firearms course, but defensive uses of firearms are discussed, and rudimentary techniques taught to women who wish to learn them.

The most interesting thing I observed about the course was the series of uniformly positive press clippings about the program. (This is NC, not NJ! They also have a way cool poster that I wish I could digitally photograph to post. Oleg would love it!

Hmm...I was thinking about arranging a women's only class on Purdue's campus. I think I'll get in touch with him.

Working as the Range Master at a Second Amendment Sisters event for new female shooters, we have four events a year with an average of 40 participants an event. Thus far it has been handgun only, but we may add some shotgun and rifle. I may have a Class 3 dealer willing to demo full auto as well.

Each shooter gets a personal coach and can shoot a wide variety of handguns.

Last year Glock donated a pistol and we expect to have more of the same this year.

Extremely rewarding event as we change a lot of minds, create new shooters and influence many more by the safety and quality of our event.
