I have a S&W 1911 that I bought new in 2007. It has about 7000 rounds threw it, most reloads. I just loaded some 230 RN copper plated X-Treme bullets using slightly over 4 grains of Clays. I know max load for that bullet is 4 but I pushed it a little. I fired about 50 round with no problems. I cleaned the gun when I got home and noticed the firing pin stop had what looked like an impact crater. Not a stress fracture, hard to describe so I will upload pictures. Could the pressure have been so great that the firing pin was pushed back so fast it cracked the firing pin stop? Called Smith & Wesson and explained what happened. Did not tell them I was using reloads and they sent me a replacement part no charge. Really great customer service. I know Clays is not the best powder but I ran out of Power Pistol. The one on the left is the new firing pin stop. Any thoughts? Thanks.

That looks like a cast or MIM part. It's time was probably up had nothing to do with reloads. You may want to install a EGW square bottom one as an upgrade.

When was the last time you replaced the FP spring? I have broken the FP stops on BHP when the spring gets weak.

Never replaced anything but the firing pin stop. Gun is one of the most accurate guns I own. Will look into replacing the springs and firing pin.
