Want to install oversize, flat base EGW on Colt Delta 10mm. After comparing to original it appears a good bit of material will have to come off right side of stop, is it suppose to be that much larger?. Is the stop a fairly soft material? Is there a easy way to keep firing pin hold centered. In short I need a crash course with directions for a dummy. Would be most grateful for imput.
Thanks

First get it to fit your slide.... use a magic marker coat it and press it into the slide. File down where your marker gets removed... it really depends on the tolerances of your slide. If I remember right.... it is 2:00AM for me, you want to take off as little on the left side as neccessary.

Once it fits your slide snug then add your extractor to the equasion...guess what, now it doesn't fit anymore :what: , don't worry now you need to mark up the right side w/ magic marker again and clearance the slide stop for the extractor your using.... Some people will say file the extractor but that's a bigger pain in the butt than removing some more off the stop. You just need to make sure you don't remove so much that your extractor can clock again...

When your done it'll be very tight to push up by hand with the extractor in place. Now your final task is to put a 1/16 radius on the bottom of the stop...

Now yur dunn :D .

Stop

Howdy carjack,

It's a bit tricky to keep the sides straight and square unless you're handy with a file. Unless you're having a problem with extractor rotation or the stop falling out of place, it's not critical to have a tight fit. What is critical is that the radius be straight and true, or it'll cause a side load on the hammer.

I see you're a Tarheel. If you're within driving distance of King, NC you can bring it by here and I'll fit it for ya...No charge.

Firing pin stop

Thanks to all for input,I need to invest in some more files. Tuner appreciate the generous offer ,I'am 3-4 hous east in Mt Olive. I was suprised how oversized it was compared to original.I'am always amazed at the knowedge and generosity shared on this forum.
Thanks again

Tuner....I just returned 2 series 80 stops to George as the were out of spec. bottom tab would in no way align with disc. rail or hammer....just got these last week from Brownells back order....just a FYI. I have two series 70's coming from Brownells tomorrow..be interestig to see if thes are cut properly.

I've gotten one from time to time that was a little too long to fit flush with the disconnector rail and just filed it to fit, and reshaped the radius a little. Not sure what you mean about lining up with the hammer unless the hole was slightly off-center or it wouldn't slip into the space because of the radius at the top. Sometimes I've had to adjust that area too. Not a biggie, but a little tedious.

Good to hear that Brownells finally got the pre-Series 80 stops again. I ran into a problem with one of those in a Pre-80 slide once and had to cut the stop in half to remove it from the slide. Never had that happen before,
but I guess there's always a first time for everything. :p

Tuner...the tab at the bottom of the stop was offset to the right too much....the tab in the middle where you file the .078 radius was set to the right too much. fp hole would line up ok but tab was offset about 1/8" to the right so that if you looked at it installed from the rear you could see about a 1/8" of disc. rail and when slide is retracted the stop would not engage the left 1/8" of hammer face.

EGW Outta Spec

J Bellino said many things...

Wow! Yeah, those needed to go back. I assume that...if George didn't have heads rollin'...that he at least had a few britches on fire. :D

Mill table fixture musta slipped or sumpin'. :uhoh:

'Tuner,

I put that replacement EGW you sent me in last night after this thread go me to thinking about it. I looked just for grins and sure enough the one I got a few weeks ago that I modified with too much radius was like this too. Perplexed, I looked at the original FPS from Kimber. Guess what? It was cut the exact same way. Neither one of them aligned all the way to the left where the ejector notch is. The new one did. Anyway, just thought you'd want to know.

EGW Slippin'?

Hmmm...That's interestin'. Ya might oughta call George and tell him about this.

Let's drag Kruzr into this one. :D

HAY KRUZ! Does Kimber use MIM firing pin stops? (I GOTTA go find
some Kimbers to look at. I bet there ain't a half-dozen in the whole county.)

If they are...I can see how a fixture or jig could slip and cause a machined part outta kilter...but I thought MIM parts were immune to that particular
manufacturing bug.

Tuner,
I sent my out of spec. series 80 stops back to George for him to look at and received two series 70 stops from Brownells yesterday and they are OK.....Waiting to hear from George via E mail.....let ya'll know.
