I recently purchased a used 28 ga richland arms sxs shotgun. I think it was made in spain and imported by richland. My problem is after firing I can not break it open without a lot of difficulty. It appears that the firing pins are not retracting because of the gouges that are made on the primers. How can this be fixed?

There are several possibilities causing the firing pin dragout problem. Without diassembling the gun to check the internals, most likely one of two problems. Both problems likely stem from one. There is more than likely grime in the channel that the pin rides in. If there are FP return springs, then these are getting gummed up and not working well enough to return the firing pins. If they are simply relying on the shells to push them back, then the grime is stopping them. Either way, have the gun disassembled and cleaned and you should solve the issue...

Many of those Spanish shotguns have firing pins so soft that they batter and spread from day one. It usually only takes about 5-10 boxes of shells before they begin to either stick forward or stick to the rear and the gun can't be fired.

Take the gun to a good gunsmith and have new firing pins made from drill rod, drawn and tempered. They should last about forever, but something else will break long before that.

P.S. The previous owner had the problem first and unloaded the gun in the other meaning of that word.
