I'm just getting started with handguns, I've got a 9mm and a 1911. I'm in need of something cheaper to shoot, so I'm looking to get an accurate .22 for target and plinking. It looks like low end Rugers are around $250. Would I be happy with something like that, or do you get a lot more if you go up $100 or so in price? I don't know much about the buckmarks, except that they look similar to the rugers, and I like the feel of the Walther p22, but the barrels seems a little short.

Also check the Beretta Neos. Some don't like the look of them, but they are cheap ($199) plinkers and are fun to shoot. They are also very easy to break down and clean.

I second the Ruger MKII.
You might also want to consider a conversion unit for your 1911 in 22. Wilson, Colt Kimber, and others make a nice one for about $250. Get to use your 1911 bottom end and the 22 upper.

I like the Rugers, love the Buckmark, pass on the Walther.
Rugers are decently accurate stock, and have many options available for aftermarket upgrades. Built to last several lifetimes.
Buckmarks are very accurate out of the box, but have fewer options for aftermarket. Also built well. Love the ergonomics of the Buckmark with the factory URX grip.
The Walther P22 has gee-whiz Star Wars good looks, but it also has a zinc alloy slide that is prone to breakage, and reports are that it's not particularly accurate.

Conversion unit for your 1911?
CZ makes the Kadet, essentially a .22 caliber CZ75. You can get it as a complete gun, or as a conversion unit to put on one you already have.

People will sing praises about Buckmarks, and I can't not recommend that pistol, it's an awesome gun.
But my first pistol was a Ruger MK II, and I think the reason why I learned how to break it down and reassemble it so easily is because I had no prior knowledge of how easy the other .22 pistols were to take apart, lol.
So I'm nuts about Ruger Mark IIs and IIIs.

i have a 22a and works and shoots great. never any problems with it and it's way more accurate than i am. you'll find pro's and con's about most all fireamrs so if possible go and look and hold the ones your interested in.even better shoot the ones that catch your eye and pick the one that fits your hand and pocket book the best.
