Edit, sorry I posted this in sights and accessories. If a mod could move it I would appreciate it. I apologize for the oversight

I picked up my first centerfire AR. A Windham SRC in 7.62x36. I got it for $784 shipped plus $20 fee. Seems like a good price from what I can tell. I am aware some people have had feeding problems with ARs in 7.62x39. I am also aware some people do not and from what I can tell the ACS mags have the best rep so I picked up 3 extra.

I already have a SKS and an AK and a nice stash of 7.62 ammo so I figured why not give it a try. I have been wanting an AR, and it seemed like a good fit for me.

I read a lot of reviews of the AR in 7.62x39 and I have seen the good reviews as well as the bad ones, so I feel like I kinda know what I am getting into in general, but I did not see many reviews for the Windham in particular. It is a fairly new offering.

So does anyone have any experience with this gun? How do you like Windham Weaponry in general

Windham is the guy who originally owned and operated Bushmaster. Once Bushy got sold off, he opened Windham. They are as good, if not better, than the pre-Freedom Group Bushmaster rifles.

I've never got to lay hands on a 7.62x39 AR. I'm a 5.56 man when it comes to my ARs, but I do love me some SKS action.

Post pics and a range report, I've got a buddy who may be interested in a 7.62 AR.

I built an M4gery using a Windham barrel. When I lay off the coffee, it's decently accurate, about 3 MOA with irons at 100 yards. When I have too much coffee, the barrel shoots 6 inches at 50 yards...

No experience with 7.62 AR's, but what I've seen of Windham they are good milspec built guns. Proper bcg profile, proper staking, decent barrels (but heavier profile) and put together right.

I have 4 ar's from model 1 in 7.62 and they all shoot 1.5 and better with reloads. Not quite so good with commie ammo. Makes an animal out of the ar platform.

What brand mags are you guys using and how well do they work? That's often the Achilles heel for 7.62x39 ARs.

The QC and materials seem much better with Windham but that should be no surprise. The non-compete clause pursuant to the purchase was for five years. Apparently, Windham was up and running in just a few days after it ended.

Nice to have good quality ARs coming out of that location again. Now, if they would just move the entire operation to some state which isn't controlled by gun-control fascists, it would be even better.

Actual range reports most welcome re: first sentence of this post.

I own a Wyndham AR in 5.56/.223. It has been a great rifle. I have a red dot on it so I have not shot it past 50yds (dot is to big to see center of target at 100). I have no experience with 7.62 but, if it is anything like mine it should be a great rifle and a good shooter. I am really impressed with mine and recommend the Wyndham if someone asks me about purchasing an AR.

You are correct. I use the mags from Midway. Midway calls them ar stoner. Not sure who makes them.

ASC (formerly C-Products) is currently making good mags in 10, 20, and 30 round capacity. I prefer the 20s.
