Who told you Colt went out of business?

They have cut back their civilian product line (no more double action revolvers), but AFAIK they're still making 1911/1991 pistols, Single Action Army revolvers, and AR-15 rifles.

AndyC; A CZ75 in 1981? There has to be a story. C'mon-give!
No magic to the story, I'm afraid - I lived in South Africa and it was a very common firearm back then (my dad bought his around 1977 or '78).

My first gun was a graduation gift from my dad in 1976 a s&w mod 41 with 5inch barrel, the first gun i bought was a s&w 586 in 4inch. wish i had that 41 back, sold it many moons ago

AndyC, the reason I called for a "story" was that the CZ75 was very rare in the US back then, since Czechoslovakia was Communist. Some US troops bought them in other countries and brought them home, or they were bought in Canada. I thought maybe you had gotten yours in a similar fashion. EDIT: Well, I suppose you did. Do you still have it?

BTW, I have an early CZ75 (a "pre-B") without import marks. I presume it was a bring-back by a serviceman.

Yup, I remember reading the US firearms magazines in those days - how upset the US writers (and shooters) were that they couldn't get CZ's for political reasons; pretty much like Norincos these days, I guess.

No, I don't have it any more - that was my first of 3 or 4 over the years.

my first was a rg .38 special. it worked, sort of, most of the time. Piece of poo.
my second was a ruger single six, my 3rd a ruger police service six. they worked, perfectly, all of the time. I wish I still had them, they both left me when I got divorced. ( dang fickle firearms!) they have both been replaced.
(as has the wife)

A S&W Model 18 with target grips in walnut. Nice little gun, shot the heck out of it.

A blued Colt lightweight Double Eagle Officer's model. I paid $400 for it. I had to sell it because I couldn't find a duty holster made to fit it. It was a fun, accurate little gun, and it would have been a great concealment gun, if I could have afforded more than one at the time.

Traded a guy my used Snap On rollaway for his 4" Stainless Python. Wish I had that back.

.357

Mine was a Ruger Security Six .357 with a 6" barrel...gave it to my 5' 6" 112 pound wife (she loves that thing!) when I bought my Para-Ordinance all steel P14-45 w/ the 13 round capacity, now I'm looking for a good .40 S&W compact to add to my collection.

A Ruger Mark I > Ruger Security Six, Stainless 6" barrel > Charter Arms .44 Bull Dog > Mossberg 500A Puersuader 12 Ga > S&W M&P40 and a Sig P226 Elite .40S&W.

Remington Rand 1911 .45 @ 17

Damn, I wish I still had it. Young & dumb. :banghead:

The first handgun I actually purchased for myself was a Smith & Wesson 1955Target Model 25-2 with an 8 3/8" barrel, that was chambered in the 45acp caliber. It was extremely accurate, beautifully blued, with a gorgeous set of grips. I haad been shooting my Dad's 1911 for over 15 years and the thought od shooting the same caliber I so loved in a revolver intrigued me. That intrigue was short lived and I traded it for a Model 29 with a 6" barrel. I really wish I still had that 25-2. :banghead:
