What air rifle would you recommend for a shooters first pcp.

Honestly I don't know what I'd use it for, but would like to try one someday, not sure on 177 or 22. Would be nice to hunt small game with it,but they don't seem like the gun to be carrying in the woods and seem better on a bench of tripod.

Would be nice to use it for some pest control and stuff like pigeons, squirrels, rabbits, and just some target shooting.

I was looking at the xisico sentry but not really any others. Guess I'd put a $500 budget if it's worth it to spend that much but closer to $300 is better.
I have my daisy 853 and a crosman 1322 modded courtesy of loonwulf to mess with for now, but just always wanted to give a pcp a try since they seem to worked the bugs out.

I have a discovery and marauder, the disco is very loud, think .22 LR.

The Mrod isn’t that bad but not as quiet as a suppressed .22 with subs.

It is a lot more air rifle than the others I have though.

Had fun playing with it even at 100 yards and beyond.

I think there's some decent hand pumps now for about $100, and there not to bad if the tanks not completely empty.
Ive got a cheap amazon pump, think it cost 80 bucks....sucks pumping up the bully when it drops below about 2500, thats an easy 15mins of exercise. With the way its tuned thats also one (or not even) full magazine............

As for starter PCPs, Im actually looking at the Umarex...uhh....gauntlet? cant remember It uses a 13CU regulated bottle (Id have to research but im assuming 800-1kpsi) , so the shot string will be really flat till its nearly out. That little bottle should take a ton of pumping, and if its designed right you can just get second bottle and swap it in.

Ya just looking at that one, airgundept has the 177 for $229 right now. Seems it needs some mods to really get everything out of it,

HEH, so ive just been looking at the SPECS of the gauntlet...I just looked at the design. Its a QB79 Repeater...bascically the exact same gun i have in co2 except set up to take thread in tanks and with a cooler stock.....did not know that.....

Now that I KNOW that I like it even more, BUT there are some failings to that design if your intent is to generate top end power.
The valve is still a qb78/79 valve, and the adapter/gas system isnt rated for more than about 1100 psi, unless they significantly changed the tubeing and adapter design/materials.

Id expect a standard .22 pellet at 850-900 pretty doable, but much more and your looking at significant cost.

It's a big gun lol. So the tank can hold 3k but if you fill it in the gun only 1100? I see it has some nice things but others guys complain about. Wish I knew more about these can't tell if it's good or not.

The tank is a separate part https://www.ansgear.com/HK_Army_Alu...vVGIW2WDT_5dKvBhCJ5ZBCG-0eiZy9oxoCYrkQAvD_BwE
Like that, tho youd probably have to modify the ports guages to avoid hitting the stock when attached.
The air tube on the gun itself is only good for about 1k, but the tank is capable of 3000, THUS they regulate it down to 1kish as it leaves the tank...that threaded chunk at the front of the tank is an HP regulator.

That's pretty cheap for a tank, I remember paintball ones being pricy. So buy a extra or two take would be nice.

Can the tank be filled out of the gun with the hand pump or does it need to get filled at a full station. Wish I was still in the FD, we had just gone a new pump station before I left.

The accuracy looks good from a few videos I glanced over. Trigger out of the box isn't to good but says it's adjustable but don't know if it takes all that creep out.

Tanks a stand alone unit, the fill nipple is part of the assembly so you could fill one while using another.
If they are using the standard qb barrels accuracy should be good, tho probably not excellent unless you get lucky. Up side if you DO want a new barrel they are easy to make with a lathe and a blank.
The trigger is a standard QB trigger. You COULD get the trigger for an AR2078 which is two stage, and If im remembering correctly a bit better than the trigger on my gun which is basically a qb78 deluxe trigger.
In stock form the qb trigger is not exceptional, and while fully adjustable, theres enough play that you really cant set your break too short. With work they can be tuned up pretty good, but Ive not done that to my current gun.

One other change they appear to have done to the Gauntlet is convert it to cock on open. Standard qbs are cock on close, personally with the increased spring pressure and bolt handle design, i think cock on close is probably a better option.

looks like its still available tho....everything besides the bolt and barrel should be the same between at least the .177 and .22
The .25 might have some unique parts, especially since they rate the gun at 1900psi, tho perhaps the parts are good enough for that much oomph, and im just paranoid.

Still don't know what I'd get the 22 or 177 if it could do 2moa think I'd be happy, don't think I'd shoot over 50 yards. 22 pellets are more but still cheaper the 22lr. 177 is a good discount worried about parts down the road. Where are the umarex made anyway.

The Benjamin look old to. Since I'm broke right I'll have plenty of time to read up lol.

Still look into the xisico sentry as well.

For hunting id go .22.....Ill actually see what mine can do tomorrow if i can find a fresh pair of powerlets.

Parts wise the only unique ones are also the ones that shouldnt break or ware out. The qb parts are made in china, and i assume so are the breeches, barrels, and bolts, but i could be wrong.

The Benjis are always a reasonable, if not really good, deal for what they are. The Maximus with an LDC might be a really good option as a starter as well......BUUUUUUT that Sentry is one i keep coming back to.....

The fortitude looks like a Maximus repeater with a shroud....which id appreciate.

im.....digging that gun too....LOL! Maybe its time i buy a hpa compressor......

sooo many fun options....I should probably shoot my b25 and see how i like that before considering other guns lol. I think ill probably put the Simmons ATV i just got on it and see how it does tomorrow.

Ya lots to choose, I'm sure Benjamin has a bunch of stuff you could mod or tune. Interested in how that b25 shoots.

I was able to buy a Benjamin Marauder complete setup of Armslist for $400. It is pretty entry level but works for my purposes.

I have to agree, I got a couple SCBA tanks for cheap and keep them filled. You can see if there are any places around you using this finder.

I do still have this rig but I haven’t needed it in so long I put the base and handle back on the pump and keep it with the rifles but it cut out the work too.
