Picked this up from the gun shop today, won it on gunbroker. 71' Ruger and I am really happy with it! The finish is pretty nice in my opinion. Anything I need to know?

Very nice Ruger. That's my favorite profile for a Mark, tapered barrel, low profile sights.
Mine is a Mark II, I don't know much about the older models like yours. I think yours would be a Ruger 'Standard', and would take the older 9 round mags.

The Ruger Mark series really are fantastic guns. Mine's a plain Jane MkIII, and it's fantastic. Most accurate pistol i own, and my constant hiking buddy.

Nice clean looking standard model. Just saw one (built in 1968 by the serial number), in the box, at the LGS for around $400. I think you did just fine with your purchase.

You just got to love that gun. In 1967 I made my first gun purchase and this was it ... Ruger Standard model. Sticker price was $18. Things have changed.

I still have it and it's box and both are in pristine condition. Odd thing to me is my son wants and prefers my Ruger Mark II Target. I guess I can understand that.

@Wil_Terry: Take a chill pill man.

@maskedman504: My only advice would be to look up videos on how to field strip the Mark series pistols. They can be very tricky.

Ruger called it a Standard Model back in the 70s. Not sure when the Mark 1 moniker came about. My friend's stepdad had one and, after shooting it, I couldn't wait to be old enough to buy one.

So that the bolt always comes to rest against the chamber face.
If they spent more time hand fitting each gun I suppose they could get the bolt to stop without a gap, but that would add cost.

i have a plain Jane mark II 6" pencil bbl.....fixed sights.....great gun.

IT IS NOT a "MARK" or a "Mark series ". It is a RUGER STANDARD 6" 22LR AUTOLOADING PISTOL.
PLEASE quit making up names and trying to fake it as you go...
And so it goes...
+1 ... But that wouldn't be any fun and so many potential threads would never get started.

I pocked up a damn nice mk1 (it's an actual mk1) with the target sights and bull barrel and I absolutely love it. Traded a sig mosquito for it. Smartest thing I ever did, it's a phenomenal little gun.
