As stated above, I am looking to buy a semi-auto in 22LR. I would like something along the lines of the 1911 design, but have not seen anything that fits the bill.

I am not sure if I am looking in the wrong places, or if nothing like this exists.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the Ruger MKIII 22/45. The grip angle is made to duplicate the 1911. Unfortunately, the grips/frame are really thin and feel awkward to me and the weight is light due to the ploy frame. [I'd rather have an older MKII 22/24 that has a thicker frame]. I opted for the all metal MKIII678 and find is a much better fit. Ruger has lots of after market support.

You can buy a 1911 and get a conversion kit (Marvel, Kimber, Ceiner, etc.) that allows you to shoot .22 by replacing the slide on your 1911 with the conversion kit.

You might also consider the CZ Kadet - either the conversion kit or the dedicated pistol.

I have been through a Ruger 22/45 and MkIII, Walter P22, S&W 22A and 617 looking for the right .22lr pistol....
I'm not going into all the reasons, other than I'm a picky b******, I finally ended up with a SIG P220 SAO .22 Classic ...I wouldn't trade it for the whole lot I had in the past :)
and for $399 I have the option for a .45ACP conversion...

Here's one of the best deals in an inexpensive .22lr plinker:

Walther P22 $349 at Impact guns.

Or, The Ruger MkIIIs are nice and can be had around the same price.

I have the Walther and have had troubles with it. I've had it stovepipe, FTF, FTE, light strike, you name it. (variety of HV ammos)

I don't like the look of the Browning Buckmark, but I shot my friend's and it was the most accurate gun I have ever shot. Amazing difference. I would suggest it over the Walther especially since it is the same price.

+1 on Browning Buckmark. Most accurate thing I own; the 'wow' factor is worth the $275 asking price at Academy. Mine is still going strong after almost 20 yrs...

If you want a 22 that's like a 1911 then the best you can do is get a 1911 with a 22 kit...or buy a 1911 already chambered for 22.

the next best thing is the Ruger 22/45. I have an MKIII 22/45 and love it.
Like others said, the grips are real narrow, but it does have the same grip angle and control placements as a 1911. It's also cheaper than a 22 kit for a 1911.
The balance isn't like a 1911 because the grip frame is so light compared to the barrel.

I plan on doing a 1911 grip mod to my 22/45 so it really feels like a 1911.

I know there are a lot of people who don't care for and probably never handled a Llama 22lr but mine along with many others have performed exceptionally well over the years. While the Llama brand is tainted by some bad lines some are very good and extremely reliable. The 22, 32 and 380's all have proven to very good pistols.
The Llama may not fit the bill as it is a smaller version of a 1911. One of the best choices short of converting a 1911.

Here are my 1911 style llamas top left 32 acp top right 380 acp and bottom center sporting some custom grips 22lr

It really depends on what you want. I went through a long process in picking a .22lr handgun--including renting and shooting Rugers, Buckmarks, and the lovely S&W 617. I considered the S&W 22 A, too, which gets either hot or cold reviews, it seems. If you want to go used, the Colt Woodsman is pretty nice.

In the end, I threw out all my research after handling a Sig P226 Classic 22lr. The trigger is like butter, even in double-action. It looks and acts like a full-size pistol and it’s upgrade-able to a center-fire caliber for less than $400. It’s awesome. The MSRP is $608, and online prices run $500+, if you can find the pistol in-stock. I got mine through a local store for $495.

If you can find a used S&W 422 they are quite 1911 feeling and are more accurate than I can hold even on a rest. They put the bullet right where my hand points it... even if my hand isn't listening to my brain... :D A S&W41 shares this but is hellishly more expensive.

+1 .22a,same size as 1911,doesn't "look" like .22,and good for pistol whipping when ammo runs out.....................:evil:I love mine and keep it in the rotation.

You can get an S&W 422 for pretty cheap. But, be carefull, there are some reall stinkers out there. The quality on this pistol has been pretty hit or miss for me.

I shot a friends' P22 over the weekend... seemed small, cheap, and inaccurate compared to both my Buckmark and Kadet.

I would kinda like to get a .22 conversion for one of my ccw pistols, but how does the accuracy compare with the .22's like the Ruger?
