Hello everyone, I've been lurking around here for a little while, reading some posts, and finally I've posted a little bit.

First off, I appreciate all of your experience and wisdom that you've posted around here - it helped me immensely while looking for my first revolver. I was looking for a home defense revolver, and came across an S&W Model 19-4 in beautiful shape - bluing is near perfect, but it came with some old Hogue grips - they looked pretty dried out. I paid $450 for it.

I just got new Ahrends grips in for it, thought I'd share some pictures with the Ahrends grips, as well as the standard grips w/Tyler T-grip. I figured I'd try some different configurations to see which feel best. Enjoy the pics!

That's a dandy!! You have very good taste.:D

Carry it a few years and it will look like this.

Nice revolver. I bought one just like it - er, maybe a 19-3 - brand new in 1980. It is a little big and heavy for carry but it is one heck of a good shooting snubbie.

You couldn't have picked a better "first" revolver. Actually, in my book it is the PERFECT double action revolver. Ya done good!

I'm really pleased with how well this gun shoots. I've taken it to the range frequently since I got it (just got the Ahrends, so I've only shot it with factory grips w/Tyler T-grip). It was the first pistol I've ever been able to shoot pretty much dead center on a target with. I'm working on my DA trigger pull, and trying not to flinch when I load it up with .357 :)

I love the factory grip/T-grip combo. Makes me feel like i have a lot of control. But, the Ahrends seem to fit my hand really well, so I can't wait to get to the range with them and try them out!

Very nice first wheelgun. You will never want to get rid of it, and you got a decent price by today's standards. A 2.5" 19-5 is one of my very, very favorite handguns.

Very nice... my favorite and own 2. Try the Hogue Bantam for carry.

Lovely. I bought its twin a few years ago at a pawn shop, UNFIRED for $250. Sold it here to a nice fellow, because I prefer fixed-sight Smiths.

Beautiful 19 you have there. It does not get any better than that, congrats!

Very nice. Good job. I've been looking for a nice 19 for awhile, but lots of folks around here like them. They appear ... and disappear. I straddle the Smith and Colt worlds, but the Smiths are my "practical" guns while the Colts are the collector pieces, so hopefully I'm unlikely to mistakenly pull the cylinder release under pressure in a confrontation involving a Smith.

Very nice. If I ran into one of those tomorrow, it would be coming home with me. I didn't buy one ten years ago when I saw it in a case, and I haven't seen one for sale at a sane price since. They are just that nice.

That's a beautiful revolver. I don't think you can beat an older Smith. I favor the factory plus Tyler T grips- very classic and work very well.

Very nice gun...

You and I have similar taste. I also like model 19 snubbies with Ahrends finger groove grips. I bought two of them last year, and my average price was about $50 more than you paid.

Beautiful revolvers there. I have been keeping my eye open for one but the only ones I have found local are over 500 bucks and at 80% or less.

Thanks for sharing.

Dear Stonecutter,

I know what you mean about being able to shoot a good revolver well. I tried about ten different auto pistols over the years, and just never could shoot well. Lo and behold, when I started shooting old Smith revolvers, my shooting improved dramatically. I can't miss the bullseye with 17+1 rounds anymore, but at least I can hit it with 6!!! Best wishes shooting bullseyes with your 19.
