Which 12ga slug most closely allows my smoothbore to pretend it is a rifle and stretch the distance?

I don't mean which one is most powerful or most accurate even (although I imagine a strong correlation here) I mean which one has the flattest trajectory.

I'm imagining that the silver arrow will be hard to beat here. However, if anyone knows anyhting close, please do let me know. The silver arrow is so FREAKING expensive I would like to find alternatives.

This would be for giving a shotgun longer legs vs. two legged predators in a TEOTWAKI scenario so I don't care about expansion or being "humane" to the animal.

I've never heard of this Silver Arrow ammo, do you have a link to some info some where?

You need to invest in a rifled barrel to get any benefit from sabots. Rifled slugs are meant to be fired from a smooth bore. I would focus on ammo your gun is meant to shoot.

I am sorry, but what you said was an oxymoron..... There is no such thing as a flat shooting 12 ga.

You will need a rifled barrel. Or better yet, just get a rifle :D.

A Brenneke slug is going to give you the most range out of a smoothbore, although it will still be a close range prospect compared to any rifle.

The Brenneke Black Magic is a good one, I would also look at the offerings from Dixie Slugs.

For the flattest trajectory, rifled barrel and sabots. The Hornady SST at 2000 fps is getting good reviews from folks.

Just my .02,
