Helping to stop Terrorism...One day at a time...
I am a Canadian Resident (citizen) and I will be in California on Temp. Duty with the Air Force. I was thinking about buying a Flintlock rifle to mess around with while I am there, and then bring back to Canada when I go home. (flintlock rifles are considered "primitive weapons" in Canada and do not fall under the Firearms laws and regulations, so it can be brought accross the border with zero hassles so long as the Customs weanies are boned up on their firearms rules).
As a Non-Resident Alien (no green antenae...honest:scrutiny: ) can I order and take posession of a Flintlock in California?

You can buy them, no problem. Just sign onto dixiegunworks.com, cabelas.com, or similar and order away. They aren't too common in gun stores but you'll find a few. Nothing will stop you from buying them. Pay your money and take your rifles. No wait, and you can mail-order them and have them shipped to your residence.

As for owning them.... I'm not the one who can get in trouble so take this with a grain of salt but IIRC the federal law which requires you be a citizen or six-month resident alien who has stated intent to acquire citizenship (which you won't be doing) also uses the "antiques are not firearms" definition of firearms. Replica muzzle loaders (and C&B revolvers, etc) are considered antiques even if manufactured yesterday. So you should be fine.
