To simplify:

Resident of Texas, active duty, stationed in Virginia. Then....
Received Virginia carry permit. (still Texas resident, but stationed in VA.) Then....
Permanent Change of Station to Florida (still Texas resident, now in FL.) So....

Is my VA permit good here, given reciprocity? If not, when does it expire?

Thanks!

According to Gutmacher's book covering florida firearms laws, you need to be a resident of the issuing state of the CCW to have reciprocity....so either get a Texas one or a Florida one.

In a nutshell, once you get to your new station:
- fill out FL application
- have it notarized
- get passport-sized photo taken (write name, DOB and SSN on back with a Sharpie)
- go to local sheriff's office for fingerprints (hope they can do them electronically), get receipt
- make copy of your CAC
- send it all in with check

Good luck! What branch? (I'm an active O-4 in the Public Health Service...yes, it's a real branch of service!)

(FL resident here)
The Dept of Agriculture has been swamped with CWP applications, but there is a way you can expedite the handling and processing of your CWP application. Instead of filling out the application and sending it in with the photo, fingerprints etc, make an appointment with one of the regional Dept of Ag. and Consumer Services offices. You need to bring ID, payment for the application, and proof of firearms training, but they will take your picture and fingerprints there, fill out your app. electronically, and send it off with expedited processing. It will still take longer than you like but it should go in half the time of applying the old-fashioned way.

I don't know this from personal experience, having gotten mine the old way, but I just got this info from another local NRA instructor so I expect it's good info.

Again, good info. I'm here in Pensacola for an uncertain amount of time, and I might end up back in TX for the rest of my training pipeline. We'll see when and where it takes me. Thanks guys.

***THREAD HIJACK ALERT***

If you're in P'cola and then possibly moving on to TX (Corpus Christ?) for the rest of your training, I'm assuming you're in the Aviator or NFO pipeline? Would've done the NFO pipeline myself had I stayed in NROTC in college...and I just had the Air Force do PRK on my eyes about six months ago...

Hot d@mn, my FL CCW permit showed up today...can't complain, less than five weeks from when I mailed my paperwork in to when it showed up...

Or..............skip all that and make an appointment to do it all in person at the Department of Agriculture.
And have your permit in a week.
There are six regional offices. Tall, Jacks, Orlando, Tampa, West Palm, Miami

Enjoy P-cola. VT-6 is the best squadron at Whiting, try to get it if you can. Advanced in Corpus is a blast.
