Has anyone hunted any of the preserves in Florida and Georgia; preferably FL. I'm interested in hog hunting. I've researched a number of sites, but any personal experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance....Carl

are you talking about Wildlife Management Areas?

b/c if you are, the FWC website is a good source of info

Some of them are quota controlled that you must draw permits through a lottery, but others are walk in, any time during the open season dates.

Some are good for hogs, some are not...youll tend to find that the closer a WMA is to an urban area, the harder it is to hunt...IE Babcock-Webb WMA, in Charlotte county is right near Fort Myers, so it stays pretty busy during hunting season, and I will not hunt there (too many people with rifles)

here is a list of the areas divided by region...find the area you want, then open the brochure to see if walk in hunting is available on what dates. The litter deadline for the quota hunts was back in may or june I believe. I missed out this year.

Pikid89, thank you very much for your input. I found several sites with what I'm looking for. Also a preserve (Fulrut Outfitters) that borders the Babcock-Webb WMA and has 8400 acreas of private land to hunt and very reasonable rates. They also have another 1000 acreas near Okeechobee with the same deal. Check them out if you have a hankerin' for some fresh pork...yum-yum....good stuff.

Thanks again......Carl

You may be right---the owner just e-mailed me back and said the property is pretty much undeveloped with zero facilities, the hunters build their own stands, and a 'hunt' costs a thousand bucks.

Not sure if that that's good....or bad......

If it's a hunting rights lease, expext to pay around $10 to $15 / ac / year. Typically folks will go in with 4 or 5 people on 1000 ac.

Fella's, I should have said outfitters instead of preserve. Preserve is what they're called up north.

My apologizes.....Carl
