Hi, I was wondering if I would be permitted to fly to Connecticut from Washington and check a handgun on the flight. Obviously not have it with me in the cabin. It’s been a while since I’ve flown with a gun, and I know the laws are more restrictive in Connecticut now, so is this even legal?

The reason I ask, is, I understand that you cannot shoot other peoples guns in Connecticut? I am visiting my mother, she owns a couple of guns there, but I have heard that you are not allowed to just fire a gun that is registered in someone else’s name. Is this accurate? Like I said, I understand the laws have gotten stricter there. I know I am asking two questions here, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The link below leads to the CT Assembly digest of firearms laws. I found nothin therein to indicate any restriction regarding shooting another person’s firearm. There are a ser of tables included. Look at section 53 titled Firearm Use Offenses. No such restriction there, where it would be if it existed.

You could call the CT Attorney General’s Office to ask your question. They might not answer it and tell you to get private counsel, but they also might answer it.

Do any ranges in CT have rental firearm for shooting on-site?
Most if not all do and there's no requirement to pass a background test or have any licenses to rent a firearm (or purchase ammo with a rental) at a range in CT.
