I'm a cost per round reloader....yeah, I'll do some stuff for precision shooting and the components cost what they cost, but mostly I'm loading general range/training ammo in bulk. So typically for pistol bullets I find myself switching between plated or coated cast - whatever is least cost per at the time in bulk.

Lately, I'm seeing FMJ as the cheapest option which just seems unusual to me.

$60 115gr 9mm FMJ - Armscor
$65 115gr 9mm FMJ - Remington
$88 230gr .45 FMJ - Armscor
$60 55gr .223 FMJ - Armscor & Wolf (not that I was buying plated or cast there, but was paying more than that for pulls or whatever I found cheap)

Wonder if that's connected to soft gun sales - everyone & his brother started making ARs, 1911s, & micro 9's and ramped up production. Scare faded & now everyone has to unload all these guns they made.....Did ammo companies do same & now have to unload excess components cheap?

I always seem to need to restock when prices are great - I just get lucky that way. Because I'm so cost/rd oriented, I buy in bulk (I'm getting every pound possible for a single hazmat fee for example). But that has so worked out to my advantage just thru sheer luck of timing. Through every panic, I was covered up in components and they've been transparent to me.

So anyway, I've run myself out of a lot of projectiles & see all these FMJ choices that are cheaper than the basic plated, pulled, or coated I'd normally turn to. Thought that seemed strange. Raw copper prices have come down, but still 3x the cost of lead....

Do you have any links or further explanation? I am not sure what I am reading.

Generally to calculate costs you need a dollar value, item and amount of said item.

Sorry....prices per 1k projectiles. Outdoor Limited - local to me so sales tax but no shipping fee. But I'm sure there are other online retailers with similar pricing. Even RMR - the FMJ in some are cheaper than the plated. Actually the Remington & Armscor pistol bullets are in individual retail packs of 100 so no case discount. You could go buy 100 9mm 115gr FMJ projectiles for $6 (+ tax or shipping). They also frequently run $5 off $100 so that 5% just about covers the tax. I ordered some stuff over weekend and actually split it up into 2 separate orders to use the $5 and the $7 one (yes, I am that cheap)....

Maybe Montana Gold will follow suit :) I really like their CMJ bullets...just too cheap to buy them. But had 6k of their 9mm & really liked them.

Yeah, Armscor is selling products to distributors for about the cost of materials here in the states. American companies can't compete. Haven't figured out how they can afford to ship it here to the US, then ship it to distributors, then ship it to dealers, and then ship it to the customers for those prices. Imagine how much they must be saving on materials and labor.

Apparently Remington has a way - or else they way overproduced and are selling at cost? I just picked up 3500 more of these yesterday @ $6.45/100. With 5% off + sales tax, call it 6 1/2 ¢ per. That's about exact same as I can get Acme coated cast delivered if I get 3k. No qty discount - 1 bag, case of 2k (in these same bags), same per unit cost.

The post-Trump panic selling is already over.

Individual manufacturers/sellers may still get into trouble and need to dump inventory because they mis-matched demand with their production, but I don't see a trend.

So, the word with Remington is that they filed for bankruptcy and they had a ton of inventory. The judge would not let them erase their debts with so much inventory in stock. So, what I've been told is that they are selling a ton of their stuff at cost so that they can go through with the bankruptcy and clear their books. At least that's what I've been told by my sources in the industry. I know exactly how much it costs to produce a 9mm bullet and that price has got to be close to their cost.

So where is the rest of their inventory? This vendor is selling just ONE Remington bullet at a great price and I haven't seen similar deals on Remington bullets anywhere else. If your sources were right, then we should have a bonanza of great Remington components at similar prices.

Since I'm mostly into revolvers, I hardly ever load any fmj bullets. Almost everything I load these days is HyTek Coated lead but those are great prices. I don't shoot enough 9mm to even think about loading especially since my time is limited and I spend all of my loading time on .38/357 with a little 44 thrown in. My guess to the lower prices is mainly because so many ranges now require lead free bullets. Also with so many government agencies going back to 9mm now the manufacturers are producing more 9mm than ever. Of course that doesn't explain other calibers. I've heard varying feedback on Armscor components but I see Remington is just about as cheap. That price on .45 is actually cheaper than the cheapest Coated Lead bullets I'm aware of. That's good to know as I'm probably going to start loading .45 acp again. thanks for the heads up

For foreign made FMJs, the dollar is strong so imported goods are relatively cheaper then
they were when the dollar was weaker. Both copper and lead prices (in US dollars) are
currently near their lower price ranges in the last nine years.

However, US labor prices, regulation and other production costs are another kettle of fish.
I think we can all agree these are likely much higher than in many developing countries.

When you see a good deal on components, bullets even, buy a ton of them. Because it really sux when there are shortages and you have scrounge around to find things. I personally like to keep about 4 years worth of components on hand. I currently do not have 4 years worth of some of my 9mm loads. Need to work on that.

I've had ammunition manufacturers complain to me about Remington offloading a bunch of stuff for too cheap. It could be possible that the inventory that they are offloading just happens to be the most common stuff that everyone keeps a large inventory of. 9mm 115 grain FMJ is probably the most common and most popular bullet out there right now. Right next to .22 ammo. Nobody keeps huge inventories of everything. Usually you keep a large inventory of the most common or highest sales items and low inventory on everything else.
