I am looking at the CDNN catalog, and am tempted by the FN Compact,DA/SA trigger,(not double action only.) How bad is it,in terms of pull weight, grit or length? Is the single action trigger acceptible? Any other compact variety that is SA only, besides the "detective" slide?
Thanks

I recently picked up one of the SA/DA FN Compacts via CDNN.

I love the thing!

The double action is light enough that it does not cause me to pull the first shot. It is fairly long and it stacks but it breaks nicely and it is not too heavy.

The single action is excellent. I am guessing well under 5 pounds, probably closer to 4.

I picked it up because for a 9mm it is light enough loaded (2 pounds). 10 shots are plenty for me (been carrying revolvers). The DA allows pull and fire capability just like a revolver. The de cocker makes for safe hammer lowering to quarter cock. It has a firing pin block which I prefer in all carry auto's. It is absolutely modern in style and function. They just never caught on commercially.

The quality is excellent. Mine shoots a bit low but is otherwise very accurate. I was able to hit an 8 inch target consistently at 25 yards. Any thing less is easier. Anything more and I am running like hades :D

I picked up a holster from a manufacturer here in Denver that fits it like it was made for it. Its in the style of a Galco Fletch High Ride. Cost $65 and they are available over the phone or in some retail outlets. The company is called Hunter Leather.

For $300 it is the bargain of the year in my book. I have a full size MK III but the size of this little compact is better for carry for me. Fits right in between my j frame (1 pound) and my N frame (3 pounds) for carry.

Thanks for the feedback.I wonder if springs are available to reduce the da pull? Are the grips the same size as the full size? (interchangeable?)
Thanks again.

I don't know what would be required to reduce the da pull. Why would you want to do that?? I know one of our board members had one of these a few years ago and his smith could not really tweak the trigger much.

I have had a couple of DA autos. CZ, H&K, Colt, and one or two others. The trigger on the FN compact is better than the trigger on the H&K compact (I used to own one) in my opinion. Its a service pistol, not a target pistol. You can cock it and shoot it SA only if you want to. I would say it is every bit as good as a CZ DA trigger.

The grip is a little shorter than a full sized HP. It fits my hand perfectly, I am able to get all three fingers below my trigger finger on the grip. The test I put all pistols to for grip is this, if I can pull it and shoot it then it passes. If I have to adjust my grip in any way after pulling it from my holster then it fails. This is the best auto I have ever had for this test. The grip to barrel angle is the same so it points just like my HP. The grips are not interchangeable with the HP, neither are the mags.
