FNAR Setup

Hey Guys,
Looks like I'll be able to pick up my new FNAR next week, and I'm starting to research optics. For those that haven't seen one: http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firearms/model.asp?fid=FNF049&gid=FNG022&mid=FNM0136
So far, the Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 has my interest, but I'm open to suggestions of course. I like the looks of the BDC reticle, anyone used one with a .308? My scope budget is $500.00 or less.
I want to keep as much versitility as possible in this gun, so I'm thinking of a secondary sight for fast, close quarter target aquisition-possibly a laser with a pressure switch mounted on the left forearm rail-something small and light, but still visible in daylight. In addition to scope and secondary sight recommendations, I'm also interested in a good value in rings, as well as what height rings would work best on this rifle and maybe a good bipod that's not too heavy.

Don't skimp on your rings or the scope.......so I'd consider the Badger Ordnance rings.....about $165 but well worth the investment & incredibly durable and rock solid.

I think the Nikon is a good enough entry level scope for want your considering.....it's low enough magnification for closer shooting, but can turn up to 10X when further distance is needed.....

Hey, I've got my FNAR set-up w/ a Bushnell 4200 Elite 4-16x40 and Leupold PRW medium height rings. They are weaver but work w/ the pic rail and are a great height for this scope/rifle. Badgers are superior rings but I didn't want to pony up for them. I've also got a Harris bipod w/ Larue QD mount. Have fun with it!

I set mine up with Leupold high rings and a Mueller 4-16x50 illum reticle tactical scope. In my opinion Mueller makes one of the best value scopes on the market.

I'm also using the Harris ultralight bipod. Enjoy.

Oh Jeez! Don't get me started on FNAR set-up. The FNAR will do a lot of things, depending upon optics and other set-up options. If you don't already know about it, the FN sponsored site continues to grow and attract FNAR owners and wannabees. The overall level of expertise is lower than at THR, but the specific info/experience with the FNAR is now substantial. Be sure to find the unofficial user video on FNAR field strip. (If you have trouble, re-post and I'll throw up the link.)

I think the Nikon will do well, and is a excellent scope for the money. I would stay away from the Chinese junk that says Leupold on the side (as far as the scope); but their mounts are still pretty good.

Well the Burris XTR156 finally came in with the XTR med. 30mm rings and I mounted it yesterday. Very nice build quality-we'll see how she shoots tomorrow

I still have not done the review of the scope yet, but it is the Ziess Conquest 4.5-14x50mm with Target Turrets. The rigs are Burris Tatical medium height. I wanted to keep the height to an absolute minimum.
