I seen one in a lgs shop and it felt like a great gun but never fired one though

I have the FNP45 and newer FNX9. I think they are the best guns on the market at this time. I like the features a little better on the newer FNX series, but wouldn't pass on the older FNP version if the price were right.

The only significant issues I've heard of is that the recoil of the .40 causes the bolt stop to jump up and ding the underside of the slide. It's a cosmetic issue and the reports are that it's as bad as it's ever going to get after a couple of hundred rounds. The other issue is that a bad batch of fire control modules got through right at the beginning of the production of the USG model in late 2006-early 2007. Some of those would crack but they were repaired under warranty no matter how old the gun was.

the guy is wanting 400 or trade for my XD9 I do have another 9mm, his is unfired mine
low round count would this be a good trade or should I keep my XD opinions ?

I'd trade personally. I hate XD's. I have an FNP-45 and it's a great gun. I wanted one poly gun as a tool, not a looker. FNs manage to do the tool part great, and the looking part reasonably well. I just don't like XD's though, so take it with a grain of salt. JMO

I strongly considered an FNP. There are not a lot of accessories available for them though, even holsters are scarce.

I picked up an FNP 45 tactical and I bought it so I wouldn't have to buy stuff for it. It's got the night sights and threaded barrel from the factory so I'm good. All I had/ have to get for it is the rmr sight and the tlr2. And the suppressor haha.

I bought a FNP 40 and then traded it back in 1 week later for a Sig 229. It dinged the underside of the slide just from normal shooting, it jammed on me several times, and sometimes it would not hold the slide open on the last round.

The FNX 40 is supposed to be a better gun and was designed off of the FNP 45. The FNP 9/40 are a design all their own and were not based off of the larger FNP 45s.

I have an FNX 40 and it is a great gun, $400.00 seems high for the older FNP and being used. I picked mine up at CDNN new for &499.00 and they had free shipping at the time :)

No experience with the FNP 40, but I have the .45 and love it. It doesn't cycle WWB well, but that is because the ammo doesn't have tight tolerances on OAL so it won't feed properly. ALL other ammo has been fine. Not sure if the 9/.40 has the same problem. The .45 also has a very heavy recoil spring so it will not cycle unde-powered loads very reliably either. I've never had a problem not related to WWB or fail to feed within the first 100 rounds of buying the gun. I've since put prob 1200 rounds through it this year.

this one im thinking about is the fnp 40 double action only, no safety or decocker, ?
he wants to trade for my xd9 even across ?

yep, no safety, but it does have a de-cocker. I really wouldn't do the trade if I were you, The FNX 40 is really supposed to be a much better gun and I would save up the extra $150 for that option if I were you. Cheaper than dirt has FNX 40s for $513, so a good local gun shop should be around $550.

I have an FNP 40 USG (combo safety/decocker). I have fired 1083 rounds through it...a box of Blazer Aluminum 165gr. a box of Magtech 180gr. and 3.5 boxes of Remington UMC 180gr. and then 800 rounds of reloads using 5 gr. of W231 and 180gr. Berry's plated 180GR RN bullets. In 1083 rounds, I had one stoppage, and that was due to a reload with a crooked bullet, that still chambered, but wouldn't go into battery.

Yes, mine did get the ding on the slide from the slide stop, but it was as bad as it got after the first day firing it. The only time in about 80 magazines fired that it did not lock the slide back was the very first time.

I paid $630 for a -45 USG a couple of years ago.

A coworker shot it recently and bought a NIB FNP-9 at the gun show for $329.

I'm still happy with my deal, but...

:cuss:

I bought my FNP 40 USG for $550, the FNP 45s were selling for about $100 more...pretty sure they are a bigger gun

Have the FNP USG40 and the FNX40. The FNP's grip is a bit shorter so better for carry. I like the FNX better, definately a better grip and the sights are larger also. FNP seems to have more muzzle flip.

was looking at the pictures of this fnp 40 trade it does NOT have a SAFTEY OR DECOCKER,hammer is like a bobed type not like other fnp hammers with the eye in it ?
it is double action only I have never seen this model any input ?

Was it built on Friday?
More seriously, all the FNP series I've seen at least have the decocker. It sounds like a good deal, but I as well dislike the XD, as it looks like one and half glock slides humping.

I would not make the trade condsidering there are many websites listing the FNP 9 & 40 for $350 - 399 and for sure not for a DAO model unless that is what you are into. Keep your XD(you will miss it, I miss mine) and buy one outright from one of the many online dealers.
