FNP 45 "peening"?

Well i've been reading threads as a non-member for a while but i finally got a good question to ask. I bought a fnp 45 about 2 years ago, i've had no problems with it untill now. The guns has about 3000 rounds through it, mostly 200gr swc target loads. I shot it yesterday and when i stripped it down for cleaning i noticed the barrel hood was deformed, I look over my weapons after using them carefully and haven't seen this before. Is this worth senting the gun in to FN? I've been shooting pistols for 14 years and this doesn't seem like normal wear and tear.

I would get it checked out. Looks like unusual wear for a pistol but for all i know normal for an FN operation.

FN customer service is awesome from what i have heard. I'm sure they would be happy to look at it.

I took it to my local shop, there going to send it to FN. The guys had never seen any problems with FN's before.

IS there a corresponding peened area where that part of the barrel would hit on the inside upper portion of the slide? I would think this type of peening would be due to a weakened recoil spring and the frame battering your barrel.

no the slide is in good shape, the only part deformed is the barrel hood, the recoil spring on the gun is one of those flat steel ones i'm not sure how long they last but i get 2-3k out of my kimber and i only change those to keep my groups tight.

I noticed mine had started doing that the last time I shot it. About 1000 rounds.

Not that bad though. I was going to keep an eye on it and see if it got any worse.

Time to give FN a call it seems.

After looking it over I believe I found where it is contacting.
In the corner where the edge is sharp.



Should be able to break the edge and blend it back a bit easy enough.

Yours looks like it is getting a new barrel.

I guess I'll be scratching the FNP-45 from my want list and placing it back onto the watch list.

I don't want a buggy pistol for nearly $700.00

I got mine for 579 when it came out, it's been a great gun, i think mine was one of the first shipped to wisconsin so it may be a limited issue. From what i hear the rest of the FNP line is going to this type od layout (versus the browning pro) so i'm sure the bugs will be hammered out soon enough.

I have never seen this pistol in the flesh but it looks to me like the radius on the barrel hood has too sharp a corner to clear the inside of the slide. Just saying.

The OP's looks to be excessive. I'd like to see the inside of the slide.

Mine looks like powermad's, which I feel is normal wear (although the corner's could have been rounded some to negate some of that wear). My gun has 2210 rounds through it. My FNP-9 has wear on it, but it is more consistent and across that entire edge (although it doesn't look like any or much metal has been moved. The gun has just under 2500 rounds through it).

i dropped the gun off at my local shop last week, I'll update when it comes back. BTW the inside of the slide has no related wear to the barrel. I think the issue is the bevel inside the slide not going all the way to the edges, or the steel of the barrel didn't get heat treated properly.
