I am thinking of getting an FN P in 9mm or 40sw. I'm trying to make up my mind on 9mm vs. 40sw. On the FNUSA web site they list the specs on the FNP9, as being a little shorter than the full frame FNP in 40sw. (7.09" vs. 7.49" as I recall.) Is this so?

I know that FN also has a FN-9M that is a compact version of the same gun. And it makes sense that the compact would be a little smaller. I can't help think that the FN full frame would have the same demensions whether chambered for 9mm or 40sw. BUT, if the FNP9mm is really a little smaller, that may tip the scales for me in favor of the 9mm version.

Thanks in advance,

FNP-9 owner: there is not much difference between the full size 9mm variant that I own and the FNP 9-M that is featured in the current Shooting Times magazine; for me the size is not a factor since my carry piece is a DAO .38 spl snub; the FNP-9 is a house gun for me

if you go to the FN 5.7 Forums page: http://www.fivesevenforum.com/

and go under the FN handgun section that covers other than the five-seven handgun there are varous articles about the FNP line up

Well, like I say, I know the M model is smaller - my question was really if there was a difference in size between the FNP9, and the FNP40.

1) I do not have a FNP-40 so I cannot compare/contrast with a FNP-9

2) if you go to the FN 5.7 Forums page: http://www.fivesevenforum.com/
and go under the FN handgun section that covers other than the five-seven handgun there are varous articles about the FNP line up

3) the above link is your best source for info since that site is dedicated to FN Herstal firearms

4) HAVE FUN!!!

Woody,

Browning list the Pro-40 and the Pro-9 as the same weight, 7 1/4lbs. However, they list the Pro-40 as a longer gun than the Pro-9, just as the FN website does. I can't tell you the honest answer but the weight difference comes from somewhere, if that's the extra length, I don't know? I imagine it is though. Frankly, if it is longer, I don't think you would ever even notice, 3/10ths of an inch isn't much. If you want the .40 caliber, I would base my decision more on that than the extra little length. And with a good holster and belt, the extra 2 ounces of weight is nothing.

Wish I could be more help.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies. Really, I would not use the FNP as a CCW, so size is not that critical. I would mainly use it as a range gun.

One thing that is holding me back for now - is that I came across a CZ 75BD, full frame in the black finish. It is used but perfect condition. The guys is asking $375 shipped. I already have a CZ 40P, which I love. If I was going to get another CZ it would be the Full Frame 75 in black. So this is making me hesitate on the FNP.

UPDATE:

I went over to the fiveseven forum that was linked to above. There was a post about this very subject - that is: length of the FNP9 vs. the FNP40. Going by that thread there IS a difference. The 9 is slightly shorter.

Thanks, good to know. I figured it was.

Maybe I'm missing something? I can buy CZ-75's brand spanking new for $395.00 here in OK all day long. $375.00 for a used one doesn't seem to be a deal. :scrutiny:

Hello,
I have owned both pistols. The 9mm about ten years ago and I currently use the 40 S&W. I'm not a fan of the 9mm, but the FN 9mm I used was very accurate and reliable. I went through anti-terrorism Training with it. I bought the FN 40 S&W due to the fact I wanted a gun that was reliable straight out of the box (Bad issues with 1911's in the past).
I am very happy with the FN 40 S&W. It is the Plain Jane Model, but very accurate. Headshots at 50 ft and and bottom shots of V8 Cans at 25 ft. I love the round and the pistol.

Duckster,

I still have not made up my mind on the 9mm vs 40sw. I have guns in both. I just bought a Taurus 24/7 in 40sw (w/ 2 15 round clips), so I'm leaning toward the 9mm. I reload for both 9mm and 40sw. I like the 40sw round too. Although it seems to have a bigger snap then the 45 - I think that turns some people off.

Thanks all.
