Hi All,

First Post here... I finally bookmarked it on my browser and will be checking in/posting A lot more often.

I'm getting ready to set up my purchase for the end of the year/beginning of new year and narrowed it down to 2 options.

Looking at either the FNP-Forty or the CZ P-07
Both are .40 cal, more or less similar in size.

what I am asking for is opinions from owners on reliability and durability factor. What's your experience with yours and IF you have both which would you choose over all?

Thanks in Advanced,
Cynthia!

I don't have either model you reference, however I do own a fnp45 and a czsp01 tactical 9mm. Both are great guns and have performed great. I will say the cz is so well built and its so accurate.i The fnp is a soft shooter and a good deal compared to sigs and hk's. You can't go wrong with either.

^^ :banghead:Useless Glock, coment since the OP is asking about FNP and CZ's^^^^

If the OP was going to have your hands surgically attached to her arms and the Glock fit her, then your comment would be relivant. As it is, it helps not at all.

I don't own either gun, but I do have the FNP-45. It is a high quality, accurate shooter. I did have magazine problems, but it was a cheap fix.

I've heard nothing but good things about CZ's.

I have an FNP-40 USG. I bought it in May of 2011 and have 2800 rounds through it so far. It still has all the original parts and looks about like it did after my first range trip.

It isn't as accurate as my Glock 19....or I am not as accurate with it. That might just be the recoil and the sights though. I like the sights on the FNP more than those on the Glock, but they might be a little harder to line up than the Glock sights. With the Glock, the front sight pretty much fills up the notch on the back sight when at arms length...there are gaps on either side of the front sight when looking down the FNP though.

There is a notorious problem, where upon firing the gun the takedown lever will bang into the slide and put a nick in it. That has happened on mine, and even as anal as I am, it isn't that bad and it doesn't bother me because it doesn't get any worse over time.

I've had some problems when reloading also, the bullets don't always go straight into the case. If the bullet is at all crooked, or if a bit of the plating shaves off, it will not feed. The FNP has a tight chamber.

That's tough, I had an FNP-9M at one point, their compact version, don't think they are the easiest model to find, but it was outstanding, loved it. Fit my hands perfectly, reliable, had a great capacity to grip size ratio, accurate, I really liked the trigger, and the sights were both highly visible and very unobtrusive, can't imagine snagging them on anything by accident.

I've also had a few CZs, the 97B, the 40B, the 75D PCR, and a Kadet Kit that I used with the PCR.

Basically, you are asking about the two pistols that far and away had the most comfortable grips and were great performers for me. The only gun I would recommend as readily as either of those two maker's pistols in those lines are the subcompact Glocks 26 and 27, not what you're looking for.

Both of those pistols are going to be as durable as you could expect a pistol to be and will give you both pride of ownership and good service. If you can find examples of either to try out, do it, otherwise just try to get your hands on them both and pick the one that feels and fits better.

While I have not ever shot the FN I would say it would be hardpressed to top the CZ. My CZs and clones have become my go to guns for everything and have been extemely reliable. There may be better aftermarket support for the CZ if that is a concrn

I love CZ and never fired the FN you are looking at.

IIRC the .40 S&W is problematic for the P-07.

You can get more info at the CZ forum on the P-07 in .40.

The P-06 is solid in the .40 though

If you ever want to do upgrades, the CZ would be the one. If this doesn't matter, then make certain the ergonomics are right for you and find the best price on either.

Thanks to All! I'm not a real big glock fan, nothing against them but I have not found a Glovk I just love or have to own.

Thanks bunches to triple 7, for the link. I knew about the issues they first had with the P07 but I think it's had enough production time to work those out. but we'll see.

I am leaning more towards the CZ, went to the local range and spent some more time with each of them. I really like the trigger feel on the cz. That and the light weight just made it seem more comfortable.

Again, thanks for the input. I'll post a review let you all know how it handles.

I have a bunch of CZ's. the P-07 is really good, but that model has had some teething problems. The good news is that CZ's customer service is excellent, so even if you get a lemon, they will take care of you.

I've had both. Currently neither, which says something. But between the 2 the FN is the better gun.

The P-07 issues are far behind it, and I hear nothing but good nowadays. :) I will say the texturing on my P-07, (9mm, wicked accurate fun to shoot), was very..."aggressive", as in carrying CCW under a t-shirt would rub my fatness raw. I think the newer P-07s have toned it down a bit, but it WAS designed as a duty gun, and with that texturing on the grip, it wasn't going to come out of your hand even if it was sleeting down on you with the gun covered in oil!
I would definitely choose the CZ, but I am biased, (that's my board you were given a link to, after all. ;)), and I have experience with the P-07, none at all with the other.

Never shot or held a FN but in my opinion you can't find a finer gun for the money than a CZ. Strong, reliable, very accurate, pleasing to the eye, and the customer service is top notch if you ever need it.

Hard choice, both are fine pistols and relyable. I would lean toward the CZ in how it fits your hand. Don't know about the P-07 but the P-01 is just great.

Having owned and fired both, my answer is to flip a coin, get that one first, and then get the other next at a later date.

They are both 100 percent worth owning.

I started out as a glock guy, and i will always have one around ... but there sre just SO MANY other awesome guns out there to eat vanilla your whole life. FN and CZ are both top tier makers. Reliability is a non issue.

My brother used to have an FNP 9. It was a good gun, better than any Glock I've ever shot. I liked that it came with three mags.

I used to have a CZ P-07 Duty in 9mm. I love CZ. It's my first choice when it comes to buying a new gun. Unlike the other CZ models, however, I didn't really care for the P-07. I felt it was top heavy and somewhat uncomfortable to shoot. I don't know how much of my opinions are because of the gun itself, or because I simply do not like plastic guns. I never really cared for the FNP-9 for the same reasons, save the top heaviness.

I will say that my P-07 never gave me any trouble. It worked flawlessly. It was accurate. If you don't mind plastic guns, then I'd recommend the P-07. Regardless, you would do well with either.

However, if I may ask, Why .40?

I carry an FNX-9 every day. I've owned dozens of handguns in my life including several CZ's and both companies make excellent handguns. you can't really go wrong with either option but between the two my vote goes to the FNP or FNX.

nwilliams, . . . really like the looks of your FNX!

I might see about eventually getting into an FNX-9 at some point in the future. It is one of the few polymer guns that I would be interested in, at this point. I thought about going striker fire, . . . but believe I will just stay with hammers.

steel CZs in 9mm are to me, the hands down finest 9MMs on the market. Unfortunately they seem to have more issues in the .40 cal variety and I've read a few bad reports about the p07 in .40

they shine in 9, don't know if I'd buy one in .40

The P-06 is solid in the .40 though

My shooting partner and I did some testing with the CZ-P01 and a SIG/Sauer P-228. We're both S/S fans but the P-01 was more accurate in our testing. For a compact pistol that still has reasonable capacity the P-01 is one of the very best and boasts a NATO certification that few other manufacturers have even attempted. The P-06 is nothing more than a P-01 engineered around the .40 S&W cartridge. If you want a really good pistol, skip the P-07 and go with the P-06. ;)

I would go with the CZ P-07 any day. I love that pistol so much I have not one but 2
But then again, I might be biased.
just my 2 cents..

CZ-75 SS X2
CZ-75 Omega
CZ- P-07 X2
CZ SP-01
CZ PCR
CZ Kadet
VZ 58 X2
VZ 2008

I think as others have said its hard to go with either. People that recommend glocks don't consider that maybe people like you and me want something in da/sa. I like the cz for its high grip and large controls. Plus you can convert to sao. I'm pretty sure the teething issues are worked out but even they were superficial and didn't affect function. To reiterate what someone else said, it is a duty gun not very good for concealed carry being a little wide. The grip however is thin and great
