Hello, just wondering if someone can answer my question?
My body, my daughter and I got FOID cards in 2008, mine expired this year, his in 2018 and my daughter in 2014. Why is that?
My daughter and I sent our applications over mail, he did it in LGS:confused:

I don't know how they do it. Seems pretty random. My last FOID expired after 5 years. when I renewed it last year, the expiration on it is now 9 years, and the new one expires on my birthday now rather then from the date issued. Sorry I can't answer your question. I'm curious to know as well.

First FOIDs were set to 5 years expiration (when I believe the processing fee was $5 per FOID). Now that it costs $10, it's valid for 10 years.

fehhkk
I paid $10 , my daughter paid $10 and my friend paid $10
Don't think it is because of amount of money paid.

Mine was 10 dollars. Was issued 7-01-2010, expires 7-01-2020. They are supposed to be for 10 years. If yours is different, I would suggest calling up Illinois State Police and ask them what is up. If they tell you that it's "procedure" then inform them that your "procedure" will be to call an attorney to set up a torte fraud case against the state. It is plainly written on the form that the FOID is to be good for 10 years. Renewals are the same. 10 years.

question

Does anyone know if the FIOD card reduces the crime rate involving firearms? Or, is this just a way for the "MAN" to know what sheep are armed? I feel for all the gun guys and girls in the land of Lincoln. Hope you find a way to change the law.

The FOID gives the cops another charge to levy against criminals who fail to possess one and who are caught with a firearm. Then the courts negotiate it away.
Pure revenue enhancer.
As far as calling the AG, forget it. You could do the same thing if you don't get your card in 30 days (as specified by law) and that rarely happens.
In the Republik of Illinois, we're caught between a rock and a hard place.
AND...the State of Chicago has introduced in our legislature two new bills, one making any semi auto illegal, and the second giving us 90 days to turn them in if they pass. Bye bye, 1100, 10-22, 60, 1911, etc.

Those Bills will be stricken down fairly easily PapaG. The Chicago machine is losing a lot of it's fuel. People are starting to wake up and realize that all these ineffective "laws" concerning firearms do nothing but enhance the criminals ability to attack the weak since we are all unarmed outside of our homes. It's pretty easy to see and I can't for the life of me figure out what took the sheep of this state to see it. This state has one of the strictest firearm restricting set of laws in the nation yet one of, if not THE, highest violent crime rates involving firearms. The have effectively disarmed the citizens whereas the criminals, since they aren't law abiding, have all the power.

Didn't intend to convey the idea I was worried about them....just to show that the folks up there never give up....and neither should we.

With DC struck down in that regard, Chicago doesn't stand a chance on outlawing semi-autos, and they know it.

They also know that with the lawyers and law-abiding citizens fighting those bills, they aren't able to spend time and money knocking down the other infringements on rights.

"Does anyone know if the FIOD card reduces the crime rate involving firearms?"

Of course it does, just look how safe Chicago is. :)

You apparently had a current FOID number that was still valid for three years, your daughter had a number still valid for six years, and your friend was expired at the time you folks renewed.
They pro rate the renewals.

That or if you were expired, they proccessed your cards as lost card renewals.

I'm embarrassed to admit I live in this state. The only state that still doesnt let ANY civilians carry concealed! To top it off, we have to ask permission to own a gun, and get a stupid card, that shows that Illinois is LETTING us exercise SOME of our 2nd amendment rights......I'm outta here asap

@ browneu; the customer has to show a FOID to make the purchase, the cashier has to possess a FOID to ring up the purchase.

Acevedo Introduces that bill to ban semis about twice a year. Never makes it out of committee.

Wow, that would explain why my buddy who just moved from Chicago told me he couldn't go shooting because he doesn't have a license. I thought he was being polite and it was his way of saying he wasn't interested.

Your body? Are you dead?
And how many times did you vote in the '08 election???? :neener:

My FOID card is long expired, and I have been out of IL for eight glorious years now. :)

Doesn't someone even need a FOID to fire a gun or buy ammunition?

Buy an gun/ammo, yes.

Fire a gun, yes/no depending on certain circumstances, a person not having a FOID card, can fire a gun, while in the presence of someone that has FOID card, or is an out of state hunter, legally hunting within Illinois.
