After the poll, and the thread, a choice has come to hand, and I would like, finally, to hear some input...

A pal owns a local gun shop. He has offered me a trade. My SA EMP in 9mm (like new), for his NIB Kimber Custom II 1911 in .45acp. I have great accessories for the EMP, (Milt Sparks VM2 which takes about 8 months to get, and other grips, case, shoulder rig, etc). But I can sell the accessories on GB, and not take too much of a hit. What I lose is the friendly carry-size EMP, but I gain a highly thought of (for the most part) name-brand .45.

What to do----what to do.

I also have a Sig P226 in .40, but it seems (at least at his shop) that it is less desirable for a swap, because he thinks it will take a longer time to sell the Sig than the EMP.

What ya think?
Thx

He has someone on the hook thats wants an EMP!
It also would depend on which Kimber for me I would want a UDC II or snake charmer. Depends on your desire of caliber also I would rather have a 9mm than a 40 or a 45 but to each his own.

thx doc2m

I like the 9mm EMP also, thats the problem. I can trade that RIGHT NOW for a NIB Kimber Custom 1911 .45, but thats not what I want. If anythings going to get traded, it'll be the Sig P226r in .40 that I would trade for either the Kimber Custom-II, or, (I think preferably) a Springfield PX9109LP (also a 1911 full size). I like the 1911 style EMP. It shoots straight, well, and often, and never chokes or burps, no matter what I feed it. Its a perfect carry size, and it feels good. I also think that a well placed 9mm Speer Gold Dot JHP would probably hurt an attacker as much as any other round. And I don't think that I actually lose a lot of heat in the Sig P226r in the .40 S&W. I guess its just that s-o-o-o-o many trumpeteers holler about if it ain't a .45, then its not a real gun crap that I'm hearing it a little lately. If the 1911 .45 falls into my lap, then I think I'll go for it, but if it's gonna be any kind of work or a ton of extra $$$, then, fawgeddaboutit!

Thx
F

.......highly thought of (for the most part) name-brand .45.

And some people hate them.......... YOU have a gun that works and you like and you want to trade if for some thing in a case because some people think they are nice?? Most people think SA's are better than most :)

I'd keep it, pick up a 5"/45 later.

Pardon me for pointing out the obvious, but you've aleady answered your own question.

There is not way that i would trade my EMP for a Kimber Custom...even if my EMP was beat to crap. especially if the Kimber isn't what you want anyway.

The EMP is an outstanding gun and defines it's market, you can't say the same about the Kimber unless you're in the market for bling.

From my user name, you might have a hint of how I feel about the usefulness of the 9mm in it's modern loadings (I'm shooting the Ranger 127gr +P+ and the Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P)

I do have a love affair with the .45ACP (Sigs, S&W and Colts), but more often than not I'll pick up a 9mm for general use

so, again, my decision is

If I can sell, or trade my Sig P226r in .40 for either a Kimber, or even better, a Springfield 1911 in .45, then I'm all over it.....but the decision is made-no way I can let go of the EMP. If you don't think a 9mm can get it done, please come on over and hold a target downrange for me while I put a magazine in a 4" circle at 40'. Point is, everyone knows its also about shot placement, and I'm not the best (although he might live about 1 1/2 miles from here) but I'm a good shot, and I think I would fare well if the unthinkable happened, and I had my EMP on board. The Sig is also a reliable and accurate handgun, but I could certainly see myself moving out of it and into a comfortable 1911 in .45, and since the EMP is Springfield, I'm going to focus on a Springfield PX9109 LP, and work to get the best deal. I found one at Buds for under $750, NIB, HERE! save the pennies and dimes, and sell the P226r....thats the ticket!

(I'll figure out later what to do with the 950 rounds in .40S&W  )

Thanks for the advice. I knew what I wanted, and you have given me the reinforcement. Thx!

The EMP is a more desirable model than the Kimber mentioned. I own two EMP's in 9mm and 7 Kimbers and 14 other 1911's (only 2 of the Kimbers are II series with firing pin safeties). I like SIG's too. Carried one for about 15 years. Only have six SIG's today.

I would wait for a Kimber series one before I would trade that EMP in. Although I believe you should keep both guns, and get the Kimber, I would let the SIG go long before the EMP from purely a collectors standpoint.

What you prefer to shoot and carry is so individual that it is hard for anyone to honestly recommend other than just tell you what they use/wear.

You are already setup with the EMP. I would stay there in fact in your statement is part of your answer. 9mm or 45 or 40 really doesn't matter as long as the gun is reliable. If you are worried about the caliber, you really don't understand the question.

Remember it's the Indian not the arrow that wins fights.

Go figure.
