Let me say this before anything else; I am not here to argue this point, only point out observations and suggestions. I am not here to discuss my personal veiws on politics or slander ANYONE. With that said, allow me to begin. Republican gun owner or Democrat gun owner, it does not matter. A gun owner and beliver in the 2nd amendment right is all the same. Your personal angers and political veiws dont belong here. Rather than trying to put up barriers like political platforms or some other bullcrap, se it aside and work from BOTH sides of the fence to protect our rights from the gun-grabbing nancy boys that get scared when grandpa gets out the pocket knife. All I have seen this week is complaigning about how the Democrats won and now its the end of the world. It's not and i have noticed many, many people have said this. They are totally right. I dont care if my best friend is a republican, IT'S NONE OF MY BUISINESS. If you dont stop nitpicking at all the political platforms and slandering each side than we wont even see them comming for our guns and rights. It's not the whole platform that does this, you see....most Democrats elected in my area are hunters and willing to defend our 2nd amendment rights. So...let us be responsible, old fashioned americans about this, shall we? Stand strong, together, as one...for America as it should be.

Well said

I could not say it better. That, to me, is truly a high road attitude. One thing that stands out in what was just said above....there were no labels being thrown around. You know, accusing every liberal, (whatever that is) of being a gun-grabber, etc etc. So, again, very well said and +1 on that.

I can't stand arguing about politics. I never really get into Rep vs. Dem arguments and the only L&P threads that interest me are the legal ones, that is, threads about laws and the contitution. How each of us vote is our own personal business and should not be discussed with anyone. I don't even tell my wife which politicians I vote for. Am I for Democrat or Republican? I ain't tellin'! :neener:

Well said!

I honestly think that some members use RKBA to further their party goals than to put their party to use to further our RKBA goals.

Agreed. There are a LOT of better things to do with our time and energy than fight amongst OURSELVES over politics.

Well, Republicans sure didn't do much for gun-owners or the RKBA people all these years -- the pathetic wimps -- so now let's see what the Democrats do.

The pendulum will swing the other way again.

Republican or Democratic congress or president. We'd still better keep working to protect our right(s). One of the best ways to make yourself heard is to go ahead and join the NRA if you haven't already done so.

I usually skip any political threads on any forums anymore because all i see is how it seperates those who should be united. Nice post.

We must be dilligent in protecting our rights regardless of who is in power for the moment. We must not ever give one brand of political party a free pass on our rights.

I agree that slapping party labels around is a bad idea but I think its totally objective to say that the GOP has done more good (or at least less harm) for the RKBA movement. Now that does not mean that they are the greatest party ever or that we should all be single issue voters. But I am always very skeptical about people who claim to be not partisain because no one is we all have beliefs, opinions and preferences. So thats why I talk about politics with everybody I can, I never wish to convert only to share and I have learned a lot that way. I think hiding politics in the closet is the worst thing we can do.

Anyway thats my two cents take if for what its worth, all I can say is that those of you who follow my posts realize that my open discussion of personal choices caused me to be educated and change to more socially acceptable behaviors.

Well, im glad so many people are reading this with an open mind. Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. :)

I am liberal on some issues, conservative on others, but I am definetly a 2nd Amendment defender.
I agree that we should set aside pilfering differences for the good of America.

Thinking Independent

Both parties are currently structured as pyramids.

Policy is handed down from the top, rather than developed from feedback at the bottom.

Wife and I are looking at stepping out of the "party" system.

I figure that what I really want is REPRESENTATION.

And that representation includes RKBA.

Taxes go up. Taxes go down. I whine about taxes.
Education has become a racket. I supplement my kids' education.
Idiot mayors dream up expensive "bridge-to-nowhere" type projects and boost property taxes to fund them. I whine about that.
People bicker about abortion. Gay marriage. Immigration. I try my best to be a voice of reason rather than emotion.

But there are rights that are much more fundamental.
Free Speech, Religion, Assembly: non-negotiable.
Right to Keep and Bear Arms: non-negotiable.
Freedom from Unreasonable and Siezure: non-negotiable.
Right to Keep and Bear Arms: non-negotiable.
Due Process: non-negotiable.
Right to Keep and Bear Arms: non-negotiable.
No Slavery: non-negotiable.
Right to Keep and Bear Arms: non-negotiable.

I'd go on, but it gets boring.

No police state. No nanny state.

I'm a citizen: if you're the government, stay the hell out of my life.

I want freedom & liberty. I'm with anyone who stands for that.

Kind of moving off topic but this is a quote that explains my thoughts on government:

"It is not up to the government to see that items like protection, food, and medical care are provided. It is up to the government to see that those things are POSSIBLE. The government does not have the resources to provide those things, because that’s not governments’ function.
With limited government, we have a framework for civilization. Without it, we have a framework for anarchy. We’d have millions of people with guns and ammunition that would prey off of each other. Eventually, the bullets run out and then you’re using rocks and sticks and pointy things. There can be no safety, no protection, no peace, because someone’s going to try to be king of the hill, at the expense of all others. We have a representative form of government so that everyone has a voice. Locally, we have a judicial system. We have an executive branch. We have a legislative branch. Without that framework for civilization, you cannot have protection. You cannot have the ability to keep people from starving, because you’re watching your back and looking out only for yourself. You cannot have medical care that is available to the public. You would have medical care available to the leaders, only. That didn’t work in the communist countries, it will not work here...
The government’s role here is to provide the ABILITY for people to grow enough food. For them to not only feel safe but BE safe through the enaction and enforcement of laws. Other aspects of what we’ve called civilized life, like medical care, electricity, running water, and capitalism can happen to the degree that we enjoy because we have a government."

AMEN!!!

Well said. Now lets all get off of our a$$es and do something.

Agreed

Let's work to make sure that no matter what party is in power that Gun Rights are a non issue

N

Instead of digging into our pockets to buy ammo and guns to hoard we should be digging into our pockets to send money to organizations that stand up for our RKBA. It's ballots that we need to spend money on instead of bullets. Send a letter to your politicians asking if they officially consider the 2nd to be an individual right and where you can find that in a public document or website. Tell them that you've got $1,000 for them if you they can point you to it. Tell them that you've got another $2,000 for them if their voting record over the next 2 years reflects this. Tell them that if they do these things you'll work hard to get all your friends (in my case all 2 of them :scrutiny: ) to do the same. It doesn't matter what party they're in or even if they're not in any party, but if you show them you mean that you'll support them if they support your then they'll listen.

Well said. As a political science major, I hear a lot of the Republican/Democrat debate and other political ideologies as well. I presonally think both are quite flawed and that America is never going to agree as to what path should be taken.

Since we are never going to agree on political policy, I think it is of utter importance that citizens get over their differences and remain civil. If we as gun owners lose control and seem like quacks, it will only encourage those who wish to take out 2nd ammendment rights.
