For those of you who have a passionate dislike for the Sprngfld XD could you explain

Its the recoil impulse. Blame it on bore axis, its overall design, whatever. It doesn't matter if I'm shooting 9mm, .40, .45 ACP, or .45 GAP. I shot them all and they all feel it takes longer to get back on target compared to Glock, M&P, or even SIG Sauer P series. And harsher felt recoil in their respective calibers. Looks, ergonomics, control layout, overall quality of XD's aside.

I dont' passionately dislike them. They're okay as functional guns go. But they're pretty down on my list.

I have an XDM-9 that I carry as my standard sidearm for work. It is dependable, with over 1000 rounds (factory & reloads) haven't had any issues. The grip fits my hand perfectly and is easy to hold with sweaty hands, a plus here in FL.
On my off time I carry an XD-9 sub compact for CC duty. This pistol has been just as reliable as my XDM.
The XD / XDM series may be a bit hyped but the hype isn't that far off the mark IMO.

I didn't like the feel... the XD felt snappier than anything I have ever fired, it sat funny in my hand, and even rested hitting the 25 yard target was about as likely as seeing a unicorn on the range. I don't know what was wrong with the gun but I believe you could have made lemonaid if you put it in water...

It's accuracy beyond 5 feet was dirt... literally... aim 20 feet over the target hit 20 feet in front of you... The frame had a little groove where the plastic mold was that made it irritate your fingers severely after just a few rounds... it would actually make your hand bleed.

This was NOT a range gun either. My friend bought it BNIB and we took it to the range with WWB .40 in 180gr. We had everyone we knew take a few shots at the range with it and nobody at all could use it accurately. After taking it to a gunsmith to have him look it over(still convinced it was us) he tried it... looked at the sights... and realized they were working themselves loose... The barrel had defects and the overall gun was just garbage. Last I heard it had taken 3 trips to springfield to get shooting correctly.

The gun itself... once all the kinks were worked out... had 100% reliability. Quality of it was just poor... not really poor as in it couldn't be fixed but poor as in the company should have caught it and corrected it prior to shipping. There was not one failure in the 500 rounds we put through it. I have heard that while our problem DID exist it was highly uncommon which I guess I can understand. I worked QC in a factory and sometimes on those long days you let little things slide so I am sure you would be happy with it. If I bought a poly gun I would definitely have a Glock or M&P though. I am still deciding on what to pick up at the moment since I have the cash for a new gun...

If this had been my experience, I would hate the thing, too!

Maybe they got some of the bugs out by the time mine was made.:)

Strictly as a shooter, I do like the long version. The 4" is a good deal easier to carry, though.

I'm on my 3rd XD and every one of them was sorta ugly.. but then I'm not dating the damn thing so for the reasons I buy em, I love em.

I'm just chimming in but I like my XD I have however noticed the XDm I got does not feel as good in my hand but nothing really bad to say I like mine always goes bang and is pretty darn accurate.

HippieMagic the XD you shot must have been the exception with loose sights. I took mine to a local shop to have meprodots installed. He gave up on his sight pusher because he thought it was gonna break. Then he started calling & checking before he tried to get them out again. After about a week & a half I lost patience & went & got the gun. I did the sight installation myself. It took me about 3 hours with a 2 pound hammer a brass punch a vise, a cut off wheel & a hacksaw to remove the factory sights. The back one I managed to drive out the front one would not budge-the metal was just wadding up. So I used the cut off wheel to make a notch in the top to start the hacksaw then cut it till the tension eased off by hand (I was worried about cutting too deep & damaging the slide) then drove out what was left of it. Someone told me they freeze the sights before installing them in a gun that is at room temperature that way when they defrost they are extremely tight. I don't know if that is true but it was a pain to get them out. The gun itself is fine it is reliable & more accurate than I am. I seem to be seeing a lot of posts lately about firearm manufacturers being lax on quality control. My Father who worked for car dealerships for years always said with any make you could get a Monday morning or Friday afternoon car. It shouldn't be that waybut it is.
BTW LoneGunman my Ruger pistol is downright purty. If you don't think so thats ok but you'll never change my mind.

I love my XD 45 acp.5" barrel, shoots as good as any auto I have except my Browning BDM,which is the best 9 mm I have ever shot. The XD is being accepted by our police force, for safety reasons.Springfield hit a homerun in my opinion

It might be worthwhile to try freezing them before trying to drift the sights. Probably wouldn't work, but then, it couldn't kill it.

Do they make good match guns with the trigger and sight job?

Absolutely.

I made GrandMaster with mine, altho I wish it was a bit more accurate.

One of the 3 I had done had a heavier "carry trigger" job performed which works quite well, also.

.

Last I checked Springfield Armory was a very old US company.

It was. The current company bought the name only, the new SA is made overseas, and has no affilation with the original SA.

"FYI - the 3 I saw break were range guns -- the first was 9mm (no surprise b/c it was the most used/rented) using factory ammo (either pmc of american eagle) -- captured guide rod/ recoil spring broke. It was sent back to factory & repl. The next was a 40 cal. Seemed to be a similar failure. Sent back to factory & repl. The 3 was the repl 9mm gun -- this was a different issue but the slide had locked & could not open to see what broke."

You said "break/kb" in your ealier post. I don't see any kb's in your answer.
2 guide rods and a locked slide are not kb's. :scrutiny:

Incorrect.

Canyon Creek Custom can put a better-than-1911 trigger on an XD. This applies to pull weight, over-travel and reset.

He's done 3 of mine. In fact, he shows my red one in the top left corner of the first link showing his flawless rear sight installation:

i'm not saying that you can't have a great XD trigger..

but the fact is, the trigger designs are totally different.. and the practical "feel" is different..

the reason??

the XD trigger is on a pivot.. the trigger arcs in it's sweep.. the 1911 does not.. it slides directly back..

the pressure on the pad of the finger changes with the XD, where it does not on the 1911..

the trigger is one of the biggest complaints on the XD.. yeah, you can shorten/lighten it, but you cannot change the sweeping arc.. it will never be a 1911 trigger, no matter what you do.. it will just be a great XD trigger..

with that said, i'm going to send my XD to Springer to have a trigger job done on it..

I like my XD45. yeah it is ugly but I love all of my 'children', ugly or not.... :D

I like the trigger, for me just right. I can't shoot a 1911 worth a darn.

I have a Sig P220 .45 ACP. I bought and XD-M in .40. The XD-M shoots well, has an nice feel and I have had no problems or any complaints that I can really explain well. It seems to me that everything the XD-M does well my Sig does a little better. I realize there is a caliber difference between the two but that has nothing to do with my choice. However, I would be willing to use the .40 instead of the .45, especially since there are twice as many with the XD-M.

1. Bad ergo's
2. Grip safety
3. Jacked up price once Springfield slapped their name on it.
4. The plastic seems cheaper than the others--if that makes sence.

Never had any interest in them--and never will.

XD .40 5" Tactical

My son has an M&P .40 and last time at the range using Fiocchi ammo his failed to feed multiple times on every mag while my XD .40 ate every round without a hiccup.

:confused:Hate the trigger??????? Maybe they changed something because mine is a new unit and the trigger is awsome. It's smooth as butter and light as a feather right out of the box. The only way it could be better is if it fire by mind control.

Looks? I know this is subjective and varies by individual but IMO my tactical looks better than the M&P and many other models out there. :neener:

I've got six XD's, from old to new. Maybe the trigger pull is hard, maybe the sights aren't perfect. But guess what. The trigger pull is exactly the same and the sights are the same. So when I shoot the 9mm it's the same sight sight picture and same trigger pull as the .45. I have absolutely no complaints with my targets because every one is pretty much the same.
My question to non-XD owners is how many different holsters do you have for the different calibers of handguns. And if one happens to lose a part how many parts from your other guns can you use to repair it w/o having to way for the factory to send you a replacement. ;)

I don't feel passionately about them at all, they're just another polymer gun I have zero interest in owning, like Glocks, and the other polymer guns. I don't like striker guns either, most of the few I've owned have had issues with misfires. I don't see the point of polymer or striker fired guns.
