This gun is legendary in the S&W line of revolvers. I guess it's pretty much the "flagship" S&W revolver, certainly for the .357 caliber. Anyway, I happened upon this one recently for an good price. And being a 3.5"er, I couldn't resist. It lives up to the legend in terms of fit, finish, action, and accuracy. It's a total tack driver.

DHart,
Your S&W shopping success is mighty fine. As always, splendid photgraphy, and a beauty of a gun.

<swoon> ... Don, I am in love all over again.

Well, you know I think I too am ''smitten'' with 27's ... always have been. So to (hopefully) compliment your delightful feast for the eyes ... my own ''contribution'' :) Tho hardly first time of posting!! Here, both 27-2's and the 5" (my ''ideal'' barrel length for this frame) and, the 8 3/8" ........

Each time I see your work Don, I think more and more, at risk of ''copy-cating'' I must add borders and text ... does look even nicer. :)

Now I have gone and tried it!

Chris great beauties and great shooters I'm sure as well! The color of the grips on the 5"er is really beautiful. This could be the start of a 27 picture thread! (Not there there haven't been plenty of others in the past!)

Don - I hope you will take it only as a compliment to your own work - but I so liked the clean border you have and the use of an ''ID'' text, that I have changed my pics to suit. I previously only had text on my pics in my ''inventory'' files on CD - the ''security'' records.

Thanks for the inspiration .... I shall try this on some others if you won't mind. :)

Chris... glad you like the idea!

standingwolf... sorry the pics aren't compressed very much. I do know how painful it can be to surf sites with lots of pics on dialup... really does suck!

As a professional photographer, I eat, sleep, and breathe high quality images and photo-rich websites. Of course I had to go broadband a long time ago.

Sorry. In future images that I post, I'll try to compress a little more as long as I don't degrade the image quality. I'm just a freak for quality, even though that means less compressed files... I'll see what I can do with future photos. I have far too many to go back and modify all of the files I've posted in the past. Let's hope for the day when the whole world is a broadband world! In the far east, wireless broadband is about as common as the telephone is to us - they're WAY ahead of the USA in that regard. Here, we wait for hardwires to slowly spread to the burbs and more rural areas - and that's a long, slow, and expensive process. In the far east, they've got the wireless broadband thing spread everywhere - much easier and less expensive to do than running wires from here to everywhere.

Speaking strictly as a graphic arts professional: not one person in a hundred can see the difference between an image saved at Photoshop's JPEG setting of 10 and the same image saved at 5.

In fact a compression ratio of 15:1 will not degrade things over much - and yield a pic size of maybe only 60k - 100k. It is not too difficult to take the ultra hi-res pics and squish em down a bit. (Sorry Don - another dig!) :)

Mr. Hart... ahem....

I have been seeking a 3.5" M27 for some time now. You must have bought mine and I'm going to hold my breath until...

Never mind. You aren't going to fall for it.

That is a very, very nice revolver. Once again, my levels of lust and covetousness are raised to sinful levels.

Chris... your pics look great. And I think it's nice to have the gun information in the image for easy identification for anyone who might see the pics. Your images are wonderful.

I do love the 27 and its variants. You want a 27 photo thread? I don't have your photographic skills but I do have a couple of guns. I don't have a pic of them all together so bear with me.

The oldest is a 3.5" nickel pre-27 from 1951.

Next is a blued 3.5" ex cop gun from Utah made in 1956.

standard.gif

This is a 5" nickel 27 "dash nothing" from 1959.

This 5" blued 27-2 is from 1968.

These last three are all 27-2s from the mid 1970s. First is a 3.5" blued model shown with a set of PC stocks borrowed from a Model 58. It now wears the correct magna stocks.

standard.gif

Next is a 5" nickeled example. I know the grips are wrong and they have since been swapped for the correct 1970s era stocks.

And finally an 8.375" nickeled gun shown in the case (they all have cases even if they didn't come with one).

Hmmm... I just realized that I don't have any exact duplicates in model, barrel length and finish. Just worked out that way I guess.

wow... your sure got 27's don't ya! Cool guns! Thanks for sharing them. I don't think the stocks on mine are correct, but I don't know what "correct" would be for a 27-2... can anyone show me what would be correct for my gun?

If it has an N serial number it would have either magnas like my 5" blued 27-2 or targets like the ones on the 8" gun. Your gun is wearing the later style of targets used in the later 1980s and 1990s.

DHart. I have been watching your posts for a while now ,always nice weapons with quality pics. I enjoy seeing them. Your collection must be growing. I need to find me a nice 3.5 in m-27.

:fire: DHart you suck. I want your collection.

Okay having said that you have a very nice collection. Obviously I'm jealous. You also take beautiful pictures. By the way are you married? If I was getting guns at the rate you are I'd be divorced. In the past year I've bought three guns and a reloader and my wife acts like I'm prepping for WWIII. I love her but she isn't a shooter. Anyway keep those pictures coming. ;)

Checkman... got a long term girlfriend. She knows I have a bunch of guns, but she doesn't know the extent of my recent acquisitions.... and certainly wouldn't be too happy about my expenditures, so shsssssh!

She's not a shooter, but I'm sure grateful that she tolerates my passion for guns. It sure would be nice if she ehnjoyed shooting... but that's asking for a lot I guess and I should count my blessings!

Well that's probably because you haven't taken her shooting.

But wait, that probably a good thing. Then they'd no longer be YOUR guns they wouuld become "OUR" guns.

I learned a long time ago to stop inviting women to the range and letting them shoot my N-frames and DA Colts.

Blues Bear... I've invited her, but she has no interest whatsoever. Guess that's for the best... we spend too much time together as it is. ;) And you're right, this way they're MY guns! :D
