Must pay penance!

I'm at about the 80% point on studying and planning my next gun purchase....the remaining 20% entailing acumulating enough "positive huss" points with SWMBO to avoid a severe fanging when the box "follows me home".

It's gonna be an AR, flat top, 20" HB, 1 in 9, telescoping stock, holosight, etc. Bushmaster. Gonna do the 3 gun thing, and this will complete 3 guns. My local friendly FFL is just waiting for me to drag out the checkbook.

Sooooo...I traipse on down to a very small (40 tables) local gun show last weekend and the only thing I can find to buy is 600 rds of S. African 5.56 55gr for $100. OMG!! I have ammo and no rifle to fire it in!!!!

Am I doomed for eternity, or is there a way out of this???

Now you're committed. There's no turning back. You just can't throw $100 away, ya know.

What I wanna know is where did you find that SA ammo? Was it in the battle packs? That's the Holy Grail of AR shooters, I been looking for the stuff for months. You must buy an AR now, you have the ammo we all dream of.

Battle packs??? By any chance do you mean 30 rd tapered buff-colored boxes that hold the ammo loose and all pointing the same way?

The dealer had more and was selling it @ $20 per 120 rds...perhaps I should go find him. I knew $0.06/rd was a great deal, but since I didn't have a rifle yet I figured 600 was enough for a start.

I just knew I should have bought more/all of it! Dang!!

Sure you want that heavy barrel?

Admittedly the difference between 20" HBAR and 20" A2 is only one pound.

Wish I could find ammo deals like that.

I'm still pondering the HBAR aspect...

I'm in pretty good shape, so I don't think the weight will bother me. I'm also never gonna be a top tier 3-gun competitor, so I'm not too worried about the weight slowing me down on the shorter range stuff. Besides the 3 gun use, I want to be able to use it out to longer ranges when I want by changing optics. I don't plan to ever put iron sights on this rifle...I have others for that.

Also, I can always upgrade or buy another upper receiver if I feel the need. This first one is very much entry level oriented.

Check Your Math

$100 divided by 600 rounds comes out to $0.166 per round which is nothing great. You can get xm193 for $80.00 per 500 any day of the week. I shoot wolf for $0.10 a round delivered from sportmansguide.com and I buy my xm193 from wholesalehunter.com

good luck on the new hobbie,

You must have the "light" version of the disease. I have 25 test rounds hand loaded of 243 WSSM 70 gr Sierra MatchKing ammo (which means I had to buy the dies, shell holder, bullets and brass 1st) ready to go for my Oly Arms 243 WSSM upper that I already have a lower waiting around for. But . . . I swear I'll be good an put that WHOLE tax return into the loans . . . honest. . . . . really. . . . . . I can do it! I'm that strong willed! :uhoh:

Not buying it are you?
