This is a first....I left the house w/out my 642......I was in a hurry, running late.Maybe I'm a little too "relaxed" lately.I have errends to run at lunch, may have to run by the house and grab it......shame on me:banghead:

I almost got out of the driveway yesterday without mine. I remembered just in time. Situational awareness will keep you from needing it most of the time so stay alert.

I'm curious, how would someone forget their CCW? I keep mine in my wallet, and as long as I have my wallet, I have my CCW. I'd notice it immediately if I didn't have it on me.

Just wondering.......

I believe the post was about forgetting the Concealed Carry Weapon.

I always call the card in my wallet a CCL. It's not much of a weapon by itself. :D

When I first got my permit I had trouble keeping it secure and on me (for various reasons I didn't want it in my wallet). I got in the habit of keeping the permit in a little leather wallet (like a card holder) that holds the permit, along withh a card with several lawyer's names on it, and one or two small reload magazines or speed strips depending what I'm carrying. That way if I'm unsure if I have the CWP, I can feel through my pocket and know it's there if I feel the little wallet and the magazine stuck inside it. Works for me at least.

CCW - Concealed Carry Weapon
CCL - Concealed Carry License
CHL - Concealed Handgun License (different states call it different things from what I can tell)

I'm sure someone will correct me if I got those wrong.

The GD CHL is N/G to the OP W/O the CCW IWB or OWB.

In case no one else noticed it theres a acronym finder in the THR Library up top. I had to ask and felt like a dummy. It's good. I would have never figured out TEOTWAWKI.

Funny. I have forgotten my wallet a couple of times and haven't forgotten my sidearm. I'd really hate to be in a position where a LEO finds out that I am carrying and have absolutely no ID whatsoever. I'd probably be going to the klink. It is a pretty interesting scenario however: no papers probably equals jail if you're exercising a fundamental right.

Don forget the state of Tennessee HCP=Handgun Carry Permit we dont have a Concealed Permit.

"MCPL" in Michigan. They did that to clarify to folks that a knife, for example, is not legal to carry...pistols/revolvers only.

In South Carolina, the card is a "CWP" = Concealed Weapons Permit.

I've always used "CCW" to refer to the actual pistol itself = Concealed Carry Weapon.

Yeah,I forgot the gun,not the permit......maybe I can show the bad guy my permit and he'll get scared and run away:uhoh:
I think because I pocket carry an airweight, and I hardly notice the gun ,it may have had something to do with it.When I carried my SP101 I never forgot it was there.....I'm sure my wife saw the gun on the TV in the bedroom, and had a chuckle.I just hope no hoards of zombies attack me on the way home....all I have is my 2" pen knife......although my buick is bullet proof....;)

Um, nevertheless, I have forgotten my carry piece at home too. Locked up in the safe.

Probably twice in the last six months on my way to work. I usually just take a chance on those days.

In Kentucky it's called a CCDW permit.

Concealed Carry Deadly Weapon permit. Goes way beyond handguns to include knives, swords, those wooden sticks on a chain that I could never figure out how to spell or pronounce, death stars, saps, billy clubs, brass knuckles and others I've forgotten.

You can conceal and carry any or all of the above.

OLCCH. Ohio License to Carry a Concealed Handgun. At first glance, the acronym bears a resemplance to the word "ouch." Wonder who though that up?

I almost went on duty once without my pistol

I get out of the car at the station, put my hand down to check everything and said "OH S#$%. I ran home and got it without anybody noticing. When you deal with a prisoner in the booking room or a cell you have to put your gun in lock box. A couple of times I seen officers forget to get them and go out on a call unarmed. ( I guess most still had a BUG )

My Father tells a story about a buddy of his who was a cop.He was on a call and had to pull his gun...it wasn't there...he'd left it in his locker..it was dark,so he looked around and found a stick about the size of a handgun and pointed it at the perp...luckily the guy wasn't in a fighting mood (and wasn't in any condition to see anything past his nose)and gave up.He put the stick in his pants(like he was holstering and cuffed the guy.He managed to get the guy back to the station and retrieve his gun w/out anyone knowing....;)

CCL is about as protective

as a restraining order, without the CCW.

If you feel you have a secure place in the car unlikely to be found by a thief, you might want to carry a xerox copy of your DL and CCL. It might not meet the requirement of the law, but it's better than no ID.

I've never left home without my cellphone, a few bucks in my pocket (I carry in a money clip) and my CCW, but I have forgotten my wallet a few times! No stop, no foul. In WA its a Class I infraction to carry concealed without your license (and a misdemeanor to carry concealed without A license).

How many of you have a backup you keep in your car? Just for such occassions.

I have a BT 380 stashed in the truck. Backs up the 642. If the truck or gun gets stolen I'm out $200. Prudent, probably not. I work from home and the truck is in the garage day and night unless I am traveling on business. The BERSA then comes into to the hotel room at night.

I have to make sure of my schedule with the salesmen to make sure we aren't going to a Govt. facility. Not even on an emergency. Drop me off at the coffee shop and pick me up later.

Forgetting permit

When I leave my wallet at home but not my weapon, I secure it in my vehicle and don't carry it that day. A felony charge is a high price to pay for ignoring the law about having this permit in my person when carrying a weapon.

I keep my permit face down behind my driver license so people around me won't recognize it when I remove my driver license for ID at a retail store. I can pick it up to present it with my driver license if needed for a LEO.

Well guys just went down to the sheriff's office to pick mine up.Just picked it up today. Here its called:C.H.P= Concealed Handgun Permit. cost $35.00,But the thing that is bad is if i go to work just over the bridge,i need one for Bossier parish. They don't honor Caddo.Man that another $35.00 that's $70.00
Total.I see why most people go Florida for five years just $240.00,and i think it's good in most states.

BTT (back to topic): Left the house w/o my BFHG (Big Freaking Hand Gun) the other day. Survived without incident (SWI??)

Actually, you'll find CCW, etc, used interchangably for " permit" and "weapon" quite often here. Look at the context.

Enjoy.
