I stopped by the local Gander Mountain at lunch this afternoon just to nose around. Very rarely will I buy anything there because their prices are usually astronomical. But every now and then there will be a good deal. Well, today was one of those days...They had a brand new Tikka T3 Hunter in 30-06 on the clearance rack, marked down from $599 to $349!!! :what:

My first thought was "there's gotta be a catch". I looked it over top to bottom and it was perfect except for a tiny little mark on the forearm checkering. So I told the counter guy that I'd put it on layaway if he had everything with it (box, magazine, etc...). He came back and said he couldn't find the magazine, so I was about to pass when he said hang on, he'd go get a new one from the back :D So, $100 later and I have until Christmas Eve to pay the remaining $275 and pick it up. Not a bad day at all! I've heard great things about these rifles, so hopefully I can scrape up the cash to get it out soon (assuming I don't get killed by my better half for yet another gun purchase )

You will enjoy the rifle as soon as you get it. When I first saw them I was leary but after shooting it I was impressed. Have some safe fun whenever you pay it off.

Or, you could try the "Oh, this old thing, I've had it for years!" excuse (provided she hasn't cataloged your firearms!)

OTOH, great find!!!

Biggest darn mistake I ever made was buying a nice rotary rack for my Mil-Surp rifles. My wife asked me to get something so they weren't all "Just leaning against the wall" in the spare room I have my reloadng bench in.

Now it's easy for her to count those and the ones in the gun cabinet in the master bedroom. I knew I was in trouble when I cleaned up my Dad's old JC Higgins shotgun and sat it in the rotary rack until he came over to pick it up.

All of a sudden I get the "So you bought another gun?" question. When I said, "No, I didn't' (I'm figuring a muzzleloader kit under the bed inthe guest room doesn't really count as a new gun until you assemble it, right?) and she says, "I noticed that the one empty slot on your rotary rack is filled now, where did that come from?"

Never make it too easy for them to keep track of things like that.
