I went shooting a week or so ago and finally got around to sorting the brass I picked up. I found four of these:

It's a 9mm, but I don't recognize the headstamp. It has two ledges inside. Anybody know who made these.

After a bit more research, it appears that it is ZQI ammo. Still don't know if it's made in house or by someone else for them.

Those stepped case are purged out of my inventory when I shot 9. Unless your using the same weight bullet to the same coal the loss of volume makes them different enough I don't want them.

I plan on crushing them, not reloading them. I've seen cases with a single step, just hadn't seen one with two steps.

It appears to be this ammo:

As others have stated, when I come across stepped cases, they get crushed and put in the scrap bucket. I have enough good 9mm cases so that I don't worry about the stepped cases.

I have a bucket of brass full of crushed necks. I hit them with a hammer and save them for recycling later.
Where do you recycle them?

I'm thinking bring them to my indoor range in SMALL quantities and dump them in the bucket on my way out. May as well let them get the recycling money.

Those are some I use the lathe to convert to 9mm Makarov. Can’t use a case trimmer on them because of the stupid step but they cut down just dandy on the lathe. I segregate them and it’s typically less than a handful for every 200-300 cases. Neve saw one with TWO steps, either. But I’m sure the boring bar won’t mind a little extra meat. :)

There are metal recycling centers all over Memphis. I haven't taken mine in yet because my pile doesn't seem wort while. A full 5 gallons should be enough. 1.90 a pound currently

I've only seen a few, but not knowing pressure increase due to the "step", I toss 'em...

I take mine to the scrap yard. Don't forget to save your spent primers in that bucket also. They add weight fast.

Last time I went I had a 6 gal bucket, not quite half full of spent primers with enough cases on top to cover the primers, some old red bronze bearing bushings of different sizes and some copper tubing and got $96.00 for it. I could barely lift the bucket so it was time to empty it.
That was last year.
It's worth it if you have enough. It took me 10 years to get that many primers. I have the deprime drain hose from my LNL-AP feeding right into the bucket.
The APP does the depriming now.
spent primer collection.jpg I have an inch of spent primers in there again already. That's since last fall.

My Dillon powder check die is sensitive enough to detect the small loss of volume inside the case.

I've ever seen the single step cases. The double step is a new one on me. I put the single step cases in the recycle bucket along with the crushed, dented or corroded cases that I pick up. A bucket of scrap brass plus whatever Steel and Zinc wheelweights that I accumulate make a nice addition to the Retired Lineman's Beer Fund! ;)

Ah, these pop up for discussion in threads every couple of years. Problem with them for reloading is that they tend to break off after a number of uses and leave the top half stuck in your chamber.
