Dare I ask if there is an inexpensive way to shoot steel targets with my 1911? Just looking for something that is safe at close ranges, anyone shoot this ammo and where do you get it? Cabelas has some lead round nose but it's pretty expensive.
I shoot steel targets with 230 gr FMJ. Not an issue. 45 isnt dangerous for steel. Doesnt have the power to be dangerous. I worry more about 357 SIG and 10mm
I shoot FMJ at steel targets at 25 yards, anything closer is too close for comfort. My steel target is next to my backtop and the ricochets sometimes slice the paper target on the backstop in half. I've been hit in the forehead with a FMJ .45ACP ricochet and would rather not do it again.
I don't know if you could adapt this basic idea to whatever kind of steel targets you're shooting, but here is the link anyway. http://www.reloadammo.com/backstop.htm
I was shooting 22LR at one of those spinner targets years back.
Well the spinner was rusted and the target became more of a bouncer.....
It chucked the slug back at me and hit the ring finger of my shooting hand.
It left a blood blister the size of a Lima bean. About 4 inches higher and it would have been my peeper that got hit.
