At a gun show 25 years ago I bought a nickel Colt Commander slide and a bag of parts to assemble a complete slide. I think I paid $20. It has been in a box with other parts and treasures since.
5 years ago I killed a deer with my Road King; totaled the scooter and during my slam and slide with me ending in the woods my Desert Eagle 1911c was damaged. The slide would stick open or fail to go into battery. I tried everything. No go.
I recently dug the pistol out of the safe and decided to try again. I test fired with the Colt slide and IT FUNCTIONED. Stripped it down and removed @1/2” from the dust shroud, it was a full size frame. The slide was rashy in places and had been drilled tapped in front of the chamber opening for(?) something. I welded up the holes and filed and shaped. I media blasted the remaining nickel and rust and blasted the Eagle frame. I zinc phosphate parked the metal and assembled what you see.
The parkerizing took differently to the weld and immediate heat affected surrounding metal. This in on the lugs so I will be monitoring for peening or other changes as I test fire a few hundred rounds.
If it keeps acting like a 1911 I’ll put sights on it.
I replaced the Road King with, yep, a Road King. I took a nice ride yesterday. 553A68C9-3EE7-48AB-94DE-1E58496C8A47.jpeg DBE6BDF2-F962-4334-97E8-F3E57C00A1FB.jpeg

The holes you closed were in the right position for the Cash Gustin accurizing system using set screws to position the barrel breech instead of welding or a long link.

Nice save.

Might not be the prettiest but it is the best it can be now. It also has a great story to tell.

I enjoyed it.
