Free gun locks?

Needing a gun lock (child and/or depressed family member safe) for my second handgun (just a plinker), but my local PD doesn't participate in project ChildSafe. Anybody know if there are any of those free gun lock programs that will mail one to you?

Also looking for suggestions on cheap ways to lock up ammo and/or guns.

Wally World has 'em either in singles or packs of four or five. A few dollars apiece.

There was a piece on the local teevee a couple of months ago that almost made me roll off the couch laughing. The local fuzz was giving out free gun locks (apparently part of Child Safe). All you had to do was go down to the station, give your name, address and type of gun. Now, I understand that they would need to know the type of gun to give you the correct type of lock, but...

The local gun show gives them out like candy. We call them bicycle or gate locks.
I've got a box filled with them.
I'd send you a couple but the postage would be more than you can pick them up locally.

There's many ways to lock guns with padlocks or cable locks.
You can even disable the gun by removing a part and just locking that up.
Like the bolt from a rifle, firing pin from a pistol, etc.

Do you have G.I. Joes in Seattle? The one in Beaverton, OR has a box of free cable locks in the toy errr gun section.

Forget the Childsafe locks if you are serious about securing your gun. Sure, they'll prevent minor efforts at tampering. Any serious effort to get at your gun will have the lock gone in a few moments.

Hmmm, I picked up a couple at my local police station. Just walked in ask the desk sergeant for a couple and walked out. And this was in a suburb of Chicago !!!! They make great bike and gate locks. If you want to keep them secure and out of the kiddies hands, get a safe.

I use combo cable locks on them for when they are out of the safe (the guns that is, not the kids )

No joke - I have a drawer full of them. Not all of them are Calif. state approved, so they are pretty much just trash sitting around waiting to be thrown away.
Of course, I can always donate them to some farmer who needs to lock his gate........

Wow, what timing!

I have, literally, a ton of them. We just got a 2,200 lbs pallet of them delivered on Friday, donated to us by US Sportsmans Alliance and Project Child Safe.

Let me know where they need to go and you can have as many as you want.

They're the nice cable ones, too.

It was really generous, but we were just expecting a couple of boxes to use for our kids shoot.

Being as I don't have children, nor a need to lock up the guns, the two Project Childsafe locks I was given for free when I picked up my PA LTCF are floating around "somewhere".

If, for some reason, I DO need to lock them up, the Bersa's is an Integral Locking System, and I prefer the trigger lock better for my snubbie.

Wilkes-Barre PA gave them away free but then recalled them because the didn't work properly !! You still have to teach your kids gun safety.And don't underestimate a little kids ingenuity and strength.
