I went to the range the other day. It is a private deal down south of me. Nobody but myself & the wind to enjoy my firearms.

I picked every piece of brass I shot, with special care for the .44mag cases I had reloaded for my wife's Rossi 92 (Trail Boss & 240gr cast LSWC...real mild, clean, & accurate toward max).

Then, I got to looking around...& it seemed like somebody had left behind some truly useful brass. Here & there in one bay somebody left behind .357mag, .38spl, & .38spl +P brass. Whoo-hoo!

In another bay, I could follow the IDPA/IPSC course of fire by the piles of .45ACP brass, mostly S&B (my favorite). Every one of those beautious shiny cases made a "cha-CHING" in my mind as I picked it up.

I felt like somebody had carelessly slung nickels all over creation and I was the only guy willing to bend over & pick them up.

I ended up with from 7-10lbs of .357/.38/.45ACP brass. I'm relatively new to reloading and have never looked at range brass quite this way.

I left behind who knows how much 9mm, .40S&W, and 5.56 brass; as I don't ever expect to load for those. Heck, an industrious guy could have paved the walkways with 5.56 instead of gravel!

I need to encourage more revolver guys and high power rifle guys to come shooting. "No, don't worry about policing up your brass! You're my guest and it would be my pleasure to pick it up after you've gone."

I also did some shooting.

At two of the ranges I shoot at the brass on the ground is fair game. Brass in the bucket belongs to the range.

I've even gotten talked to about picking out a few from a bucket at one range.:scrutiny:

You don't know how much I cried to leave all of my just-trimmed 45ACP and 223 brass at that range two weekends ago. But with all of the foot traffic and the gravel, there was no way I was going to be able to reclaim it....

I can see that the hot ticket is to go during the week... :)

At my range, the kids and I picked up 35# of brass one Saturday. Every caliber you can think of, pistol and rifle. Kept what I shoot, gave the rest away

I got a deal with the local police/ public range, they give me ALL their brass. They have trustees sort it for me by cal. It is wonderful to go by every two weeks or so and pick up 5gal buckets full of 45, 9mm, .40, .357Sig, .223, and mics other rifle brass. I have stopped picking up anything but my rifle brass.

The indoor range I go to told me I can take whatever brass they have in the buckets....as long as I leave their buckets. They just give it to anyone who asks. I still haven't taken them up on it, yet, but I have sorted through it a few times for small quantities of brass.

I need to get me one of them deals... :D

I police my brass at the range I go to, but, like you, I seem to be the only one. I constantly walk out with several pounds of 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP. I tell my girls to grab what they want/can and, when we get home, they sort it into what I can use and we take the rest to a recycling depot and they get the cash, minus $10 for gas. My truck eats it and they feel like they have a job and pay their expenses. Since we take back a few hundred pounds at a time, there's plenty of cash so they don't mind. Especially since we pass 2 malls on the way home and I'll usually stop for them to spend their hard earned cash...

Any of you guys get any extra .45ACP, .30 Carbine, .30-06 or .223 pm me... the 'public' range is a coal berm (that only seems to have steel wolf cases on the ground) and I hate buying shot brass off e-bay.

Really.. I need brass. Lots of if. I make .30-06 blanks for reenactors and a 1919 can use chew through the blanks in the blink of an eye.

Roughly how much do you get per pound for brass? Also, do you have to deprime the cases, or does the recycling place just take it as is?

Glad to see someone taking recycling to heart and understanding that there is some overhead involved in the process. Good work Dad/Mom, look forward to your children becoming adults and setting the same example for generations to come.

At my local plinking pit, there is so much brass you nearly slip on it like marbles. I think I'm going to start reclaiming more than just my own brass to get that stuff out of the environment.
