Free S&W work in Pinellas Park, FL

For those who are near Clearwater/Pinellas Park in FL --

Bill Jacksons Shop for Adventure is having a Smith & Wesson weekend. There are factory reps on site, demo guns to shoot (including the new 500 Magnum), and a S&W Performance Center Gunsmith.

The Smith is there to do free action jobs "while you wait" on any new guns sold -- and will do any S&W when there are not newly purchased guns waiting. I had three guns done today at no charge -- a 625, 686 and 442.

The Smth (Jeff) did a great job -- lubed the internals with a teflon grease, sanded and stoned the appropriate parts, swapped out a spring, and generally got everything working right. On my 625 that I use for IDPA he paid special attention to lightening and shortening the pull.

Wow! Thanks S&W! I must have gotten $200 worth of gunsmithing today.

The will be there all day tomorrow as well. If you are nearby -- its definitely worth the trip!
 
Wished I was there to have him tune up the miss machined sights on the new Mountain Gun I bought (and returned to store) last year.:(
 
I am going to stop by there today on my way to an appointment and see what they have. Will probably bring my my 627 PC 3" and see if the smith has time to tune it.
 
What a shame that a "smithy" has to work on a new S&W that probably cost in excess of $500 or $600. That speaks volumes to me about S&W products.
The absolute worst gun I ever owned was a S&W 340PD. IMHO, for what it's worth, new S&W products are terrible.

S&W revolvers are not what they used to be. I too have noticed that the triggers on new S&Ws are often really bad, esp the Scandium and Titanium guns.

I received the invitation in the mail but have not made it there as yet. Just where do they plan on shooting the big guns at? Last time I was at Jacksons you couldn't even shoot .357 mag there let alone athe .500 S&W.
Hope to have fun there also. Isn't it next weekend also?
 
Darn it!

That's probably too far to drive from Cocoa Beach, and I'd love to have a lube and tune done on my 696. :(
 
I am not aware of any handgun caliber restrictions at Bill Jacksons. They were shooting the 500 Mag at the indoor range.

The sale is on next weekend too -- but no S&W reps or anything. Next week is Glock and Ruger.
 
They don't allow magnums at their range, but they are making an exception for the show. They had guns there to shoot, including the 500. The S&W rep said that a 30 day range pass came with each new gun purchased at the show. I don't know what they will do when those people that bought the 500's bring them in to shoot. I was told once, while shooting there, that my ammo was too loud. Also asked to leave once for shooting too fast. They are pretty touchy. Nice place though.
Had three guns tuned there today by the S&W gunsmith, at no cost. He did a great job. Also talked to the other factory reps about the new PC models that are comming out. A really great show by S&W and Bill Jacksons.

They have a really nice place and the hunting department has been remodeled. I have purchased four handguns from them as they had what I wanted. There are only maybe two sales people that are nice out there, and the rest either do not care or are snobbish. I understand about making an exception for the sale but how could they tell people that they cannot shoot a certain handgun after the .500. Also no kids. I usually go to the St. Pete Police Range. No hassles. Knights is to expensive to shoot.
Maybe I will go next weekend when I have some extra cash.
 
The day that I was asked to leave for shooting too fast, I went directly to the St Petersburg pistol club and bought an annual membership. Havn't shot at Jacksons since then. The St Petersburg range doesn't care how fast or loud you are. I know what you mean about the staff at Jacksons. What I do like about them is that they are open seven days a week, and they have a good inventory. Prices are not always the best though.
 
I agree the Bill Jacksons range leave a lot to be desired -- like air conditioning. I dont shoot there often, but I like the fact they have an all day rate. Garry is the only guy that I really like there -- very knowledgeable guy.

Knights is a great place to shoot -- but about $11 an hour. I find the sales people there to be either not that knowledgeable or gun snobs for the most part.

St. Pete Police Range is nice -- I shoot the IPSC mini-matches there on Tuesday nights sometimes.
 
I met Dwayne there (DD Gator) and Dwayne I plan on getting one of your pocket holsters. The one you had was very high quality.
The Smith guy did action jobs on my 625 Mountain gun in .45 Colt and also my Model 18 which turned out to have already had work done on it which I was unaware of.

Why did they cut off the thread about this in the Smith & Wesson forum?
 
S&W rep was very nice and helpful, esp to the
new owners; answering and taking time to be
helpful with the purchase. humbled by the
work he did on my 68 vintage Jframe. Nice human
face behind the product, thats all.
 
I sent S&W an email thanking them for putting on a great show, and for the work on my guns. They really do have some good factory reps. Hope that they do it again soon.
 
Free work? Wow! That smacks of the old days at Camp Perry when Fitz use to service Colt revolvers for free. Of course, this was way before my time. Perhaps C. R. Sam remembers it.
