As for the .357, I have an old 1980 gun magazine where they tested several rounds out of 5/16th inch MILD steel plate and the .357, .38 super and .44 mag all penetrated. The .38 special didn't even make a large dent. The only test I've done with my new .357 has been to shoot clean through a hot water heater that none of my other pistols (.40 s&W, 9mm nato) have even come close.

As for the .25, you can have all kinds of stories of failed stoppages and instant kills, but I've had one and done a few penetration tests with it and I can tell you that it's very capable to hitting the vitals. I can't immagine anyone popping the slug out like a pimple. Is it an ideal choice? Heck no. But I'd definately say it's more effective than a .22 in the small autos. Keep in mind that Evan Marshal's stats are comparing a small .25 auto to the .22 lr with longer barrel revolvers. The .22 long rifle loses alot of it's velocity out of the short barrels. I was really suprised with the results mine gave after hearing all the storys about it being practically a BB gun. Not true at all from what I've seen.

Did anybody read the whole post or did you just stop after first paragraph. I saidI've heard the same things said about 22,32,380,9mm,38 special 40 and 45 so lets free them also In other words lets get rid of all gun control . And before any one gets upset I was jokeing about the 357 and 41,44 mags.

KYThunder,
Thanks for the great info about the .25 Magsafes. My BUG/carry-piece-when-nothing-bigger-can-be-carried is a Beretta 21A in .25, I have it loaded with Magsafes based on their testing, it's nice to see it confirmed.

I've long been of the opinion that the .25 is certainly better than throwing rocks, I love the popup-barrel Beretta pocket guns and the .25 feeds much, much more reliably than the .22, so that's what I've got, and in situations where total concealment is required, that little extra weight of the Beretta in my front pocket is very comforting as opposed to being naked, i.e. unarmed.

My point is,if i had to carry a .25,MagSafes would definately be the ammo i would carry in it.

It seems I once read that the .25 Magsafes aren't reliable feeders. Anybody else heard that? They're certainly too expensive for most people to do a lot of practice with them, to determine reliability in their gun.

As for .25 not penetrating leather coats, I would say that the shooter was aiming for the wrong part of the body in the first place. The .25 should be aimed at the eye sockets, and the clip emptied. That gives it the best chance for stopping an opponent, if you can get a couple of the bullets in the brain.

MagSafe may not be safe in all guns, especially in light guns like Keltec pistols. Beware that most Magsafe loads are ++P

Well I almost died from a .25... I nearly bled to death after being shot in the shoulder and the round ricocheting off of it, coming out and hitting me in the neck traveling through the artery lodging against my spine and doing semi-permanent neve damage to my right arm..

A years worth of physical therapy was all it took to gain mobility back to it..

Some blood transfusions and surgery kept me alive!

I'm not real up on fancy ballistics and tests, but I have a 1920ish Schmeisser Haenel/Suhl an uncle brought back from WWII. Holds six rounds including one chambered. Using Remington standard velocity fmjs I regularly hit a 1' section of 2x4 at about ten yards and they go all the way through. I never carry it because I don't really trust the safety (round in chamber - its locked & loaded)
for a gun that old so its a five round gun. Fun shooter though. But sure is easy to get a finger in front of the barrel.

I carried a Beretta 950 for years before I finally bought a Kel-Tec P32. It was small enough that nobody ever knew it was there. I also loaded it with Mag-Safes (occasionally Glasers). I took it with me on several deployments to "unfriendly" nations, even though it was against the regs. I used to put it and a box of ammo in one of my spare boots. No checks on baggage going OUT of the US at that time. I'd carry the pistol in a Uncle Mikes pocket holster, then, when heading for home, I'd simply field strip the gun and mail the parts seperately to my home address. Definately against the law and miltary regs, but I sure as hell wasn't gonna be unarmed when I was away from the base. Nowadays, I don't think you could get away with it.

For those that think a 25 won't shoot thru leather. In nam a guy in my Company had a 25 auto. We tested on our flack vests 25 went thru every vest we shot.
Also 25 went thru 13 and 16" of the jell in a recent test . Remember FBI say 12 in min. 25 made it with ball . Did around 9 " with HP
I own 3 of the little Beretta's and a Bauer . You can make fun of 25 auto but bet you won't stand their and be shot by one.

Many belittle the little .25 but it can be a killer. Sure it's a last resort weapon but sticking it in an ear or nostril of one's antagonist before pulling the trigger can get drastic results.:)

I agree with bakert 100%. To be effective with a .25 you have to aim for the neck and up. Eyes, ear canal, or other means of getting the bullets to where they can do some damagae.

Then turn it in on the next gun buyback, and make $50!!!!

You get $100.00 in Peoria, Illinois when they do that. The first time they had nothing but junk. The second time somebody threw in an expensive gun. Forget the make now, but since they were not checking the serial numbers, I'd bet that it was stolen!

Hmmmmm, I wonder if they would catch it if the gun was a toy???

The Doc is out and scheming now.:evil:

PS, bring back the popularity of the .25 for concealed carry. People were nicer and more polite in the past. Never knew who was carrying and might take offense!
