Ugh - I used to work for them too. For those who are looking to boycott them, you want to stay away from Lays, Doritos, Hostess, and Ms Vickies. However - a full boycott might be extremely difficult - the parent corporation is PepsiCo, which includes Frito Lay, Quaker Oats, Pepsi Cola, and any other number of products.

FritoLay (PepsiCo) and other very marketing-driven CPG (consumer packaged goods) manufacturers are VERY sensitive to corporate pressure from consumers. VERY sensitive. Seriously sensitive. They live off of positive marketing messages, and run from controversy like cockroaches from a light.

If you don't like it - call 'em on their toll-free number and just tell them that you found the ad/product packaging offensive. Once they see a certain amount of controversy brewing, they *will* change their message.

It's simple, and it works.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but in this day and age a company like Pepsico is not going to feel the boycott of a few gunnies one iota. What it will feel is a lot of angry calls and letters expressing our displeasure about their advertising. Squeaky wheels get the grease, that's how the anti's have gotten so far ahead in a country with 80 million gun owners.

Anti-gun is a feel good measure in Cali. Its more a way of life, not just a political statement there. (not defending, just explaining) Frito-Lay is just recognizing someone young who actually is trying to do something for the community, however misguided. Its meant to inspire other youngsters to get off their butts and stop playing xbox long enough to be come an actual part of society. Your complaint should not be against Frito-Lay, but Vox Populi, the organization the boy started. He had a knee-jerk reaction from a traumatic experience and went off in the wrong direction. Show him the truth, and set him free.

I just gave them a call and told them I didn't like it. I then not-so-subtly asked if they were owned by PepsiCo, along with Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Pepsi, etc, and asked them to pass along to consumer affairs that I would remember this when I shop in the future.

How far we've come!

From the days when an armed man virtually represented Frito Lay!

I then not-so-subtly asked if they were owned by PepsiCo, along with Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Pepsi, etc,

Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut were spun off into their own company back in 1997. They are no longer owned by PepsiCo.

Its meant to inspire other youngsters to get off their butts and stop playing xbox long enough to be come an actual part of society.

That, itself, is a very bad idea.

We are already governed by people with the mentalities of children. We hardly need to be governed by actual children.

He had a knee-jerk reaction from a traumatic experience and went off in the wrong direction.

Psychobabble is an example of this childish mentality. He made his choices, now we get to make ours.

It IS important to understand one's enemy. This understanding helps you know how to win against him. He hardly needs our empathy.

To me, he's no different from someone who was beaten up by some black kids in school once, so he joined a lynch mob and killed as many people as he could. Traumatized, "did something about it". Why is this inherently a good thing?

Hey 20 Nickels and all, did you guys catch the ODD words in that award nomination? Read carefully!

Regarding the 2007 BRICK AWARDS FINALIST,
Theo Milonopoulos:

"...has lobbied for a federal ban on assault weapons and created VOX POPULI, an organization that EMPOWERS teens to COMBAT violence in their communities."

------------------------------------------------------

I'm no rocket surgeon, but it doesn't take a linquist to recognize they are doing funny things with the English language. They are COMBATTING violence? Are you kidding me?:what:

What they're doing is writing statements claiming that they are COMBATTING violence.:uhoh:

More irrational, they claim that VOX POPULI [Voice of the People], EMPOWERS teens? EMPOWERS with what? Oh yeah, I forgot:

"Magic Scrubbing Thought Bubbles".

Is this the NEW AGE er what?:what:

I am wanting to call them about this but I'm not sure how to word my complaint or who to ask for. Any help please?
What did you guys say when you called?

I just called them, the folks that I talked to seemed real concerned that a lifelong customer was fixin' to leave the fold.

I called them and spoke to a nice person and indicated my displeasure with their add and asked if she could forward my concerns "up the ladder". It would be nice if there was an email address we could respond to also.

Basically, if they put someone on the bag whose claim to fame is being pro-gun, anti-gun, pro-abortion, anti-abortion, etc., they're IDIOTS.

I've always though frito's smelled like feet. Only Dorito's are worse smelling (as far as chips go)

I made the call and let them know that they would do well to avoid such politically and social charged issues. I also expressed to her that I do not believe that they do not advocate this gentleman's views because there was nothing in print that said so, and that I assume that they did give sponsorhsip to this award given their involvement with it. I used the analogy that armed bear was talking about and finished by saying they ought to take greater care because people can easily be offended on both sides of the issue depending on which is printed and let her know that neither I, my family, or close friends would be buying any more of their products. I also let her know that I did not feel that this gentleman's work could hardly be considered in the same view as someone who has done work to bring education to inner city children, or food and shelter to the poverty stricken.

I just called and told them "politely" that my family and myself found their anti gun message very offensive. And from now on we will avoid ALL their products as listed on the Pepsi Cola page.
I suspect once the Marketing Dept gets enough calls that anti message will quickly disappear. But I'll never buy their stuff again anyway, now that I know where their alliances are.
