From B Obama and J Biden their current stance on Gun control.

I think in essense, there are far more important things than gun control right now. And, probably for quite some time to come.

However...

Should the current economic situation worsen and lengthen, then all those people standing close to the line between law and lawlessness will straddle it or cross it.

I think you do a great job of explaining why, given all the issues facing our country at the moment, gun control IS a big issue - if things get bad enough, we may just find ourselves needing to REALLY rely on guns for defense of our lives, our families and our homes.

The weapon of choice will probably be a pistol. Or one of those nice plastic stocked semi auto type rifles. People will get hurt and killed, and more people will cry out for control.

As for this, I have to say, this is perposterous - in 2006, BEFORE massive layoffs, inflation and economic crisis in general set in, 3 times as many people died every year from being beaten to death with bare hands and feet than were killed by rifles of all kinds... what makes you think that, when times get really rough, "plastic stocked semi auto type rifles" will be in any more demand than they are now?

To the contrary, if things really do get that bad, I fully intend to have a plastic stocked semi auto type rifle close by my bed at all times.

Gun control IS the issue. Economic crises just point to the NEED for guns.

elChupacabra,

Timing is everything.

The loudest voice gets heard.

The loudest voices right now are economic, and probably will be for 2-3 years. Gun controls' voice isn't loudest right now.

Don't get me wrong, I know very well there is an agenda for gun control. Whether the economy gets better or worse, the agenda remains. If it gets worse, in four years, another voting cycle occurs. It will have a louder voice. Time will tell.

I have a nice plastic stocked semi auto type rifle. I don't intend on getting rid of it any time soon either. I'm very happy that my freedom allows me to have it, and use it in self defense if need be.

But the point was and is, from the anti's point of view, it's always the gun that's evil and never the man. That's the folly of the anti's, one they don't see and can't understand.

Trust me, DRYHUMOR, they see and they understand. It's about disarming Joe Average so all the Joe Elites of the world can have their way with the world and us - unimpeded.

It's our rights they are after. They can't rule when we can resist, and when we have the ability to exercise our rights, we can resist.

ConstitutionCowboy,

But is there really any money in it? The war on drugs, all about money.
The war on terror, all about money.
The war on guns,...?

Or, is it more about control?

if the impoverished criminal goes out and kills the rich guy paying all those increased taxes, then the dems lose money. :p

Background Checks at Gun Shows

At a time when some were trying to shut down gun shows in the name of fighting crime, John McCain tried to preserve gun shows by standardizing sales procedures. Federal law requires licensed firearm sellers at gun shows to do an instant criminal background check on purchasers while private firearm sellers at gun shows do not have to conduct such a check. John McCain introduced legislation that would require an instant criminal background check for all sales at gun shows and believes that such checks must be conducted quickly to ensure that unnecessary delays do not effectively block transactions.

While McCain is pretty good on the gun issue this is a sticking point. If you can sell private firearms in your home or the Walmart parking lot, why not at the gunshow?

Control is money. Or wealth might be a better choice of answer. There are many versions of wealth. With control, you can make your pick.

It takes power to control, and arms are the implements of power, be it for good or for evil. The guys with the biggest, or best, or most toys win. We the people may not have the biggest or the best, but We the People have the most by far. It's a balance we cannot allow to diminish. It must stay in our favor. That said, we should also have the biggest and the best as well.

With our armed forces limited by numbers, We the People are the last line of defense. No other nation on Earth would dare try an assault upon our shores. No other nation can amass the arms it would take because no other nation has as well an armed populace as we do.

We need to keep it that way.

I think you get it mostly, but what people fail to understand is the anti-gun, gun control crowd, never sleeps. Gun control will not be the #1 issue they go after, but it will be a definite issue the Democrats will do something about. It will be an assault from the side, not a direct frontal assault.

And let me share a little secret with eveyone:

When you have DEDICATED anti-gunners like McCarthy, Feinstein, and Schumer, with a Democratic president, and possible filhlibuster proof majorities in the House and Senate, get ready for hell to be unleashed on Gun Rights.

If you are in denial about this, with all due respect, you either have no clue about the anti-gunner's and their agenda, you are a fool with an IQ just over 70, or you plain just don't care, because it is coming.

Power corrupts and the Demo's are about to have all the power. Watch what happens. Lousy, liberal, anti-gun appointees to all levels of the judicial system, but particularly to the supreme court. Bans on different types of weapons, possible requirements for registrations, longer background checks, limited purchases of ammo and guns, etc... This stuff is happening RIGHT NOW in select states in this country, it will be pushed nation wide.

Wait and see, Schumer, Obama, Durbin, Clinton, Boxer, Feinstein, Kerry, Kennedy, Lautenberg, McCarthy, Bloomberg, Fenty, Nagin, Rendell, and every other liberal that can't help themselves when it comes to gun control, it is going to be like Christmas morning for them.

Also for those of you that think the "Blue Dog" Democrats are going to come to the rescue and prevent this kind of stuff from happening. Wait and see.... The halls of Congress are run by a select few and given that the number one goal of every congressman is to get re-elected, they will do what is required by the leadership.

WE ARE IN FOR A LONG, LONG, LONG 4 YEARS!!!

P.S. I'll sit back and read the comments calling me alarmist, paranoid, delusional, and crazy, with a smile on my face; but not for long because it is going to get ugly.

It is all about the Supreme Court justices the next president will appoint. Heller was 5-4. We will live with the next president's appointments long after he is out of office.

YES!

Obama specifically said he would not have appointed Thomas or Scalia. Without them, Heller would have gone down much, much differently.

Is it any surprise that the party that thinks people are too stupid to responsibly own firearms is also the party that thinks people can be flim-flammed by a little posturing?
