I picked up a Colt LW Commander awhile back and the gun came to me with XS sight systems, express sights mounted. They seem to be very nice, however. I am just to used to standard sights and have a hard time with them so I plan to change them. I want to use a Yost retro rear as it should fit into the factory dovetail in back very nice. But the front sight brings me to my point.

The XS dovetail front is .65deg x .330 x .075 (according to my Brownells catalog). I am thinking of replacing it with a Novak serrated front sight that is .65deg x .330 x .070. I understand the .65 angle of the cut but what are the other two measurements? Will the Novak replacement work or should I use another sight?

Thanks,
Ross

MEASURE the cut in the slide. There are three common dovetail cuts, and even though the XS is listed as one type doesn't mean the smith that installed it didn't cut another dovetail and then fit the sight to it. It happens all the time. The only way to be sure is to measure the actual dovetail cut.
