No wonder I've stopped going to this range.

Fort Dix Plot Has Poconos Tie

Tuesday, May 8, UDPATED: 11:52 a.m.
By Scott Schaffer

The Associated Press reports six men described as "Islamic radicals" are accused in a plot to attack Fort Dix.

A federal prosecutor's spokesman said the group aimed to "kill as many soldiers as possible."

According to the complaint, four of the suspects were born in the former Yugoslavia, one in Jordan and one in Turkey.

A law enforcement official said the men were arrested Monday trying to buy automatic weapons. The sale was set up by authorities who had been investigating the men for more than a year.

Court papers indicate the men did some planning and some training for their terror plot in the Gouldsboro area just weeks ago.

Investigators said the six suspects spent time at this house near Big Bass Lake community and trained nearby in state game lands.

Authorities said beginning February first one member of the group rented a home at the Big Bass Lake gated community 2717 Eagles View Drive in Covington Township, Lackawanna County. That is roughly 130 miles from Fort Dix.

On February 2 authorities said they videotaped the defendants involved in firearms training in the state game lands near Tobyhanna Army Depot. The game lands are in the Brady's Lake area of Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County.

Court papers said the suspects used several semi-automatic rifles, a shotgun and a Beretta handgun during the training.

During one conversation, months before the Pocono trip, prosecutors said suspect Mohammed Shnewer told the alleged conspirators "there is a nice place we can train in Pennsylvania. It's two hours from here."

It's also alleged that during their February stay in the Poconos the suspects discussed which targets they wanted to hit and what kinds of explosives they wanted to use.

It appears the suspects only stayed in the Gouldsboro area rental house for the first few days of February.

Newswatch 16 continues to follow this developing story and will have the latest information as it becomes available.

Steve, are they talking about the range that is in Gouldsboro as well as the house?!? I grew up shooting at that range! It has been about two or three years since I was there last, but I had planned on some trips there this summer. Another good reason to be well armed and keep one or two as a surprise when at an isolated range like this one...

But if the federal government would quit screwing up and pissing as many people off as it does, most of these militia type groups wouldn't even exist to begin with.

In this instance, the federal government initiated force, not this militia.

Yeah, we all know the police and their "informants" would never lie

majority of folks seem inclined to believe most "official" news releases without question

Wow thats horrible....

My Mother has a place in Pocono heights....no far from their. If I remember correctly.....some of the 911 terrorist worked at the YANKEE DOODLE Diner on rte 209...not far from there either......:scrutiny:

Do you have a source for this?

Source for what, they they were illegals?

It's been on many of the conservative news radio programs all day.
You didn't really expect NBC to include that little tidbit did you?

From Fox, among other places

Four of the men were born in the former Yugoslavia, one was born in Jordan and one came from Turkey, authorities said. All had lived in the United States for years. Three were in the United States illegally; two had green cards allowing them to stay in this country permanently; and the sixth is a U.S. citizen.

Now, that aside, this quote is my favorite:

The men trained by playing paintball in the woods in New Jersey

That's training? Really? Mmmmm kayyyyyy

Tecumseh rides to the rescue of the illegal alien jihadis. Why doesn't that surprise me?

I don't know why you would question this. The most elite SWAT and counterterrorism teams use paintball and that other system whose name escapes me at the moment from time to time. I mean the one where you load the cartridges in the magazine and it fires something with blue poweder on it. The rounds cut your skin if you leave it bare. Believe me... they don't start with live fire.

I can't wait to see if we actually execute these guys this time. Bush demands the death penalty for terrorism (and he already had it for treason), yet as far as I know, we haven't fried one of these pieces of shiite.

3 of them were illegals, but the media keeps calling them "Home Grown"...

+1. If the ms media pointed that out too clearly (that they were illegal aliens),
then people might get squeamish about the whole amnesty/"guest" worker
program that the fedgov is trying to ram down the throats of real Americans.

No surprises here, except they caught them beforehand. Clever that government was able to lure them into a real crime instead of relying on conspiracy charges. This will ensure they go away even if the terrorism charges are not proven.

Reminds of the other day when I was at the range by myself and a complete stranger came up to start a conversation. Eventually he asked me if I knew where to get a full auto sear. I told him they were all over the internet and he left me alone.

Anyway. Terrorism is forever our problem now. We are lucky they did not jump on their plan with the semiauto weapons. That could have been just as devestating or a short fire fight at the gate. Either way guys would have been killed and that would have really pissed me off.

Simunitions is what you're thinking of.

I did some more reading in the local papers last night and this morning. I and a lot of my friends grew up shooting together here at this range. When we got old enough to drive ourselves, we would drive up watching the roadside for litter, particularly empty soda cans. We'd collect a bunch along the way, fill them in the stream behind the range, and then plink at cans all afternoon long with .22s and an occasional .30-06. Of course, we always disposed of them properly when we were done, and we never shot glass.

One of my former neighbors, a guy I grew up with, was quoted in the paper. I talked to my parents this morning and people are all wound up about this. I am not a fan of a lot of things the government does, but it sounds like they did this one right.

Even though three were here illegally, the term "homegrown" may be applied in the sense that supposedly there was no affiliation with groups outside the country. I too heard the spokesperson state that some were here illegally. They're the ones that are blowing up the buildings that regular Americans are too lazy to do.

I just read the NBC account. No mention of home grown. They had the tipoff though. A store clerk was asked to put their training video on DVD.

Them jumping up and down shouting ''Death to America'' he found troubling and called the FBI.

Once I learned that more rattle snakes harm people than black snakes, I paid more attention to the rattlers while watching the black snakes with curiosity.

Of course, using the same logic on humans is somehow racist and "illogical"

?

we are fortunate that the domestic attackers (other than 9-11) have been so brain dead. . .

I don't think it's a trait that will continue indefinitely, however.

ARM AMERICA!

Stop terrorism in the 25 minutes before police arrive!

I don't even really have the words to respond to that... :scrutiny:

Holy crap, they actually got it right. Not "AK-47s" or "assault rifles" or "assault weapons" or "high-capacity death machines". Just "semi-automatic rifles".

My comments were paste and cut from posts in the Alabama Militia thread. I thought the cases were similiar with the exception there aren't as many complaining about the Gov.'s actions here like over there.

That is pretty sick logic. A gang of drug dealers calling themselves a militia is the same as Islamic Terrorists? They made a video tape....

If you want to die on the vine that drug dealers are a militia go ahead.

They are similar . . . as long as both are considered targets of opportunity.

It's sad that the gov't has screwed up so much that when it does something right, some can't recognize that fact and can't get past their automatic distrust to review the actual facts.

Quality of reportage on this event is pretty sketchy, but here are some links:
So evidently, not all the facts are in yet, and the MSM hasn't quite settled on the template, though I have heard "home grown" a number of times today, and only a few mentions of "illegally in the country."
