I would like to hear opinions and impressions of the full buckhorn sights that are available for lever-action rifles. I prefer an aperture sight since it reduces the focal planes to deal with to two, and while I can make do with the semi-buckhorn on my Marlin 1894C I am thinking of getting either a tang sight or a full buckhorn.

Can anyone tell me from experience whether the full buckhorn design closely simulates the function of a ghost-ring? Will it be far enough to the rear of the gun to produce the same effect? Are the sides of the "ring" thin enough or does their thickness prevent the eye from seeing "through" the sight? Quick alignment and target acquisition are my main motivations for looking into this. I appreciate any replies.

a friend let me use her cowboy rifle once, and it was set up just like this.
worked just as you describe, like a somewhat forward ghost ring-- quick and scary accurate!

The front site in her case was some kind of globe -- I don't recall exactly what reticule , but the concentric circles of the ghost ring and front sight lined up right fast.

I hate them. They obscure too much of the target and make a very poor 'arpeture' sight.

I do like tang sights, and arpeture sights in general, far far more than open sights.

Kaylee, Your friends rifle most likely just had a hood on the front sight.
Z_Infidel, I put a Marble's full buckhorn ,#98 ?, on a friends Winchester 94 and replaced the missing front sight hood. It was a very nice set up. I think that you will enjoy it on your rifle.

I have a Marbles full buckhorn sight with a Marbles front blade/brass bead on a Winny 92 in 45 Colt I use in Cowboy Action Shooting. I expected it to be slow (cause everyone said it obscures too much of the target) and inaccurate (cause I didn't have any experience with ghost rings before)

I find neither of these criticisms to be the case and the rifle is extremely accurate and fast. I rarely if ever miss a rifle shot.

I highly recommend them, especially if you want to stay "historically accurate".
