opinions for new full size 9mm

Well, consider that the Beretta 92 FS was considered to be a good choice for general use by our military as the M9.

Then consider that the US Navy SEALs had freedom of choice to select any pistol they wanted to use and went with the SIG/Sauer P-226. All things considered with reliability and accuracy being paramount, the 226 is about as good as it gets for 9mm combat pistols. ;)

My two favorite range pistols are;

* Beretta 92fs INOX. Very soft shooting and accurate. Slick-as-goose-poop mechanicals. A nice trigger too.

* HK USP because I like the ergonomics, controls and accuracy. No flaws on this gun.

For a dedicated range gun, I don't think you will beat the CZ SP-01 (or Shadow, if you can splurge for it) at their price point. Beretta 92's are great looking guns, but my vote would go towards the tuned CZ. Likewise, the Sig is a nice service pistol and will have a very nice factory trigger, but I would give the nod towards the CZ for range use.

Personally, I hate slide mounted safeties like on the Berretta 92 so I would go with the Sig 226. Not that I'd sell my Glock 17 to get one, but for a second gun...

I've got a hankering to trade my gen3 Glock 17 for a different full size 9mm and I think I've narrowed it down to either a Beretta 92 or Sig P226.

Opinions both pros & cons appreciated.
Anytime one considers the Beretta 92 as an option, they should also investigate the CZ 75B family and its clones. There is a lot of value in the CZ family.

If there were a CZ 75B, a Beretta 92, and a Sig p226 on a table and I was told I could have any one of them for free I would grab the CZ.

Might I suggest just holding a Browning High Power. I'm not sure I would recommend it as a primary carry gun mainly because I don't like manual safeties, but since you are thinking primarily range, definitely try the Browning High Power. I had a Beretta 92G and got rid of it. Kept the BHP when it came time to trim things down. I've shot the SIG before. It is super accurate, but I didn't like how tall the slide is. With the aluminum frame, it seems like an awful lot of the weight rides high in my hand. Just one more time (3 times in the magic number for subliminal brainwashing), try the Browning High Power.
I certainly love the Hi-Power. I like it so much I got two Hi-Powers and on CZ 85B and I am shopping for another CZ.

I'm more in the "keep the Glock" camp out of the three mentioned in the OP. That said, have you considered a Hi-Power?

(0ops. Should have read the second page before posting ;)

Sirgilligan,

What recoil spring is that in your 75B? Factory original?

I own neither but have shot both...

The Baretta has a huge grip and doesn't fit my hand at all.

The Sig really impressed me and I shot the center out of the target at 25 ft.

Ive shot a sig226 and loved it.Accurate (for me) with No FTE or FTF.

I own a M9 beretta and like it but dont care for the safety on the slide.

I owned a gen 3 glock and dont miss it one bit.No offense to people that own one but they just feel "cheap".

Would also say the CZ75 is just a pure joy to own and shoot and recommend looking at one as a possible option.

Just got back from the range. I know I've already weighed in, but I have to say one more time, HI POWER! It's one of those few guns I own that I come away feeling enthusiastic about each time I shoot it. I'm just as enamored with it today as I was when I got it several years ago. The New Gun Magic hasn't worn off yet.

I say get the sig they are handsome handguns. I havent shot a sig or a beretta but I do own a glock17.

Either choice would make a great range toy.

Do you have large hands?

I haven't handled that particular SIG, but the Beretta has a very fat grip.

Check out the Ruger SR9 and the XDm 9.

Lose the Block and get a nice pistol. The Browning HP is a fantastic 9mm pistol. It fits my hand the best of all the double stack 9s.
I like it even better than I like my two 9mm combat Tupperware pistols.
Well, better than one of them, anyway.

Well, the good news is there's no wrong answer - they're both great pistols. If you can swing it - get both!

Easyg-yes, I'm 6'6", 300ilbs. The Beretta actually fits nicely.
I think I'm gonna look for a 92G but will more than likely get a P226 as well at some point.

To many guns, to little funds. (That would make a good signature line)
