Fun Guns for Under $450

Moisins' are a lot of fun and surprisingly accurate. I'm looking at finding hi-cap .45 mags and then buying a Hi Point .45 Carbine. Yeah, I know, cheap gun and all of that but with some TLC they can run fine and a .45 with 30 round mags would be a lot of fun to work with. Sure beats the price of a Tommy gun!

I appreciate the suggestions. Alot of good choices mentioned. Proudly, I already own many of them.

Here is a list of stuff I ALREADY OWN:
Springfield XD-9
Kahr CW-9
S&W 442
Remington 870
Ruger 22/45
Ruger LCP
Ruger New Vaquero .357mag
Ruger Redhawk .44mag
Springfield Mil-Spec 1911
GSG-5 carbine
Sig 556 Rifle

S&W 637
Kahr MK-9
Mossberg Plinkster

I have ENOUGH .22lr guns (PERIOD) and enough 9mm SERVICE PISTOLS.
I shoot long guns lefthanded and don't any bolt action guns because of it.

I think the coach gun is going to be the next addition to my collection.

Solid choice. Some people don't like actually interacting with their guns, but in fun guns, personally ... I'm not looking for anything even remotely semi-auto. I wanna play with a fun gun when I go to the range. The more loading and finagling that happens before the shot, the better.

Right on :) Range toys are fun ... to play with ;)

I concur (and I'm enjoying this thread).

Maybe that's one reason that I've spent more money on guns than on ammunition. I do wish ammunition was free, but given that it's not, my range sessions are about enjoyment per round, and enjoyment per penny per round, too. Though I don't have any that actually take too much finagling, per se, it's fun to switch up guns; I get more pleasure out of a box of .45 or 9mm divided over a few guns than all through one, or a few dozen each of .45 and 9mm (plus a bunch of .22) than the same number of shots would otherwise bring.

It's instructive (I like to tell myself) to shoot different types of action, different kinds of safety, and both revolver and pistol. A bit like driving -- the older I get (and I'm not old), the more I can enjoy driving different types of cars without getting hung up on where the headlight switch is.

I'd like my gun/ammo expenditure ratio to shift a bit toward ammo, but I'm OK with it being gradual, esp. as I learn to reload more calibers.

I'm checking out that CDNN catalog, and I really like the semi-auto CZ Scorpion on page 25. $399, .32 ACP semi-auto with one 10 round and two 20 round mags. I like how quirky it is, it's not a brick with sights like the M11 :D But I have a rather silly taste when it comes to firearms.

Saiga or other AK?

RIA 1911?

If NFA is doable for you, you could always try a single shot, SXS, or O/U shotgun cut down to an SBS like a "Mad Max" gun. That would be pretty fun...

That gave me an idea .... a really short single shot. *That* would be fun.

SKS, Russian, Tokarev or Mak in 7.62x25. Cheap to buy, cheap ammo. You can buy 20 stripper clips for the sks for ten bucks. That is 200 rounds and it will go fast. You can buy extra clips for the Tokarev for about 12 to 15 bucks. Get a loader.

used Glock in any flavor
used .38spl/.357 revolver for target shooting
.22 rifle or handgun (one is never enough)
Lots and lots or .22 ammo (never enough)

I got the MPA 9mm with the rail on the top about 2 years ago (which allows you to fix the dumb sights) and it's a ton of fun. Never jams with cheap UMC ammo from Wal-Mart either.

The most fun gun I've gotten though is the Umarex Colt .22 "SPR" that was on sale at Big 5 sports for $399 last Christmas. Watch the Big 5 sales flyers for this deal (right now it's the Austrian GSS 522 that's $399). If you get one, only use the Federal 550 pack ammo (or it's not so much fun clearing stuck casings).

I'm a lefty as well, but I really love shooting my bolt action milsurps. I don't find it overly hampering to cycle the action.

+1 on the HiPoint carbine, fired another box of 9mm through mine yesterday. I don't know of any hi cap mags for the HP carbines other than the 15rnd ProMags (which I've not heard anything good about).

But you can't go wrong with a good shotgun.

Yeah, I don't see that doing anything better or more fun than my 870.

Is there away to get just a list or something of the guns in the CDNN flyer?
I'm posting from my iPhone right now because my wife has the laptop. Plus, I honestly prefer to just browse and post from it, except for situations like this one. (Of course.)

Plan to buy one from K-Var in 7.62x39 one of these days. The workmanship I've seen on the CAI ones hasn't really impressed me. I know it's a "just a cheap AK" but I just wouldn't be happy with one from them.

I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE FOLLOWING:

Stoeger 12ga coach gun (buy it and been done)
Finnish Suomi 9mm rifle (worried about repairs and spare parts though)
MPA MAC clone (may add stock and pay tax stamp)
Draco AK pistol (may add stock and pay tax stamp)

I like the Tokarev pistol but ammo isn't available locally and that makes it a "no go" for me. The other option that I am SERIOUSLY considering is to just buy more magazines and some nicer grips fir some if the guns I already own.

Out of those 4 guns what would you suggest? (The coach gun is still winning the race in my head.) Thoughts?

Coach Gun. It's supposed to be a fun gun, right? so why buy one you can't pick up, take to the range, insert ammo and simply enjoy? Not to mention of those it makes the biggest and loudest boom and leaves the best shoulder bruise if you screw up.

The suomi was kinda cool when it was a short barrel full auto but the semi-auto 16" one seems pretty long, neutered, and heavy for a 9mm.
Yes, they're heavy. But the barrel isn't even two inches longer than the original SMG. (see the part protruding from the shroud?)

I wouldn't worry too much about parts. These things are beefy. And if you decide to SBR it later, the shroud and barrel release instantly, and the shroud and barrel from a kit can be installed.

you can buy ak47 clones for under 450. these fire the 7.62x39 which is a very cheap round, the 2nd cheapest round i've seen after .22lr.
