I went to a Ups store to ship my gun since it was early in the morning and the gun shop was closed. The lady there said her location doesn't have endorsement to ship firearm. Wth? I thought all Ups stores do according to Gunbroker. Oh and she was trippin out when she knew what was in the box. "Uh what's in this?" Me: "it's a firearm" then she startled and backed off a little while at the same time telling me "we don't ship firearms, there's the sign blah blah.." What sign? She couldn't even find.
So I'll just go back to my FFL from now on.

Yep, a hub is where they told me. I forget about FedEx, but I just went to their hub instead of screwing with the individual stores. FedEx is not cheap though FYI.

Go ahead and create an online UPS account. Its easy. Package your rifle, print a label, and slap it on the package. Drive to UPS store, walk in with package in hand drop it on the counter and walk out. The most you will ever hear from the clerk is "is this prepaid??" Naturally your answer while backing out the door is "Yep!!"

Works for me.

Please ignore the above advice from mtang45 unless you are willing to risk losing your firearm and going to jail. Federal law requires that common carriers be notified that the package contains a firearm.
In all fairness, I think you may be speaking a little too firmly.

A UPS store is an independently run business as far as I can tell and I don't would qualify as the common carrier even if UPS comes by every day to make a pickup. In that sense you are right.

If he's shipping back to a FFL though he would be nothing nothing illegal if he didn't notify them.

As has been mentioned, UPS only takes firearms at hubs. But, you don't say if it is a long gun or a handgun. You can send long guns through the mail for a lot less than UPS or FedEx.

One of the main reason UPS quit accepting handguns for ground service was employee theft. Why the hell would you want to give them a head start on stealing your property?

According to my local Fedex driver, they have had problems with theft too. He told me to NEVER tell the driver that there's a gun in the box.

Does anyone know the laws concerning shipping gun parts. If so, if theoretically you were of the opinion that its none of the governments darn business to where to whom your guns are shipped, could you ship the barrel, stock, and action separately without infringing on any unconstitutional laws?

Just a thought

... could you ship the barrel, stock, and action separately ...
You could ship everything but the receiver/frame/action (whatever is appropriate terminology for the serial numbered item on that particular firearm). The BATF considers that to be a firearm in and of itself--even if it has nothing assembled to it.

I don't want to deal with UPS or FedEx myself, and would rather pay a dealer do to it. The problem is that they want to charge the same Overnight fee and tack on their own charges as well. Aren't they allowed to ship USPS Priority or something way cheaper than Overnight???

I walked into a UPS store a few years back with a long gun case, which was empty except for a barrel and a check...

I walked in the door, the guy behind the counter yelled, "He's got a gun!" and another guy started dialing the phone. I looked at 'em, turned around, and walked out.

Left before the cops got there...

I just sold a rifle. It had to go to a FFL, in another state. I went to the UPS depot this morning to ship it. I informed the clerk it was a rifle going to a FFL dealer. The ONLY question that was asked was " is there ammo in the box also?" Go to the depot. Quick, easy.
